I have this odd inclination to try and design a Pokemon Browser Game
Something that captures the spirit of old flash games but maybe with some sort of new appeal / constant updates
There have already been some successful ones, Pokeclicker, Pokerogue, etc
Does anyone have any ideas for a game that would be fun to design
I have vague ideas about wanting a game with some sort of economy and meta but nothing major
OR
We can just reminisce on ones we enjoyed ages ago picrel

if you do
>make it downloadable locally, make it run completely independent of any central server or service
>make it completely open source since you won't own any part of it
>but do not post it on github or any other site that responds to DMCA
>do not make a discord
>do not make a patreon
>learn basic infosec as though you were going to start a piracy website (because you are)
>day 1 include a code of conduct saying that by downloading or participating you agree there are only 2 genders, and violators to this policy will be immediately removed

Do all this before even coding an alpha, let alone posting it anywhere. Protect yourself because nobody else will.

I might not be the market for this but I'm sick of playing anything Pokemon related singleplayer. Something where I can battle or at least interact with other people would be a major selling point to me
>>57895208
What's that

Some sort of gym/elite4 type builder. Let other people challenge your gyms and elite 4.

ohhh this sounds nice
I dont know why im obsessive over an economy but like
You start the game by choosing a pokemon type you want to be the master of, maybe there is a sort of point system for balancing and you can choose pokemon, items, and moves based on these points
Then you just make your gym and see who wins
Kinda sounds like pokemon clash of clans

Pokemon run-based asynchronous autobattler, in the vein of Super Auto Pets, The Bazaar, or Backpack Battles

Pokemon Civ game where you build up a settlement that captures, raises, and breeds pokemon who vary depending on the biomes your settlements are in. You can use these mons to go roaming the world to build new settlements or assist with developing your old one (for example, a fire mon can power a forge to help you with constructing sturdier facilities).
You'd choose facilities like better pokemon nurseries, berry growing/harvesting, drug/item production to develop.
Other players would also be building their own civs and you can either compete for prime resources or try to trade/deal with things diplomatically. Any combat would use the existing pokemon battle system and would factor the environments you are in.

Win conditions would be the classic "conquer all enemy capitals", elimination, a science type win con where you discover the ability to create mewtwo, or an exploration based win con where you find ruins of significance to pokemon history and decipher a series of texts from the corners of the map, leading to you capturing 3 legendaries and then a mythical.

There would be several prebuilt "civs" that are based on existing major trainers, which would affect your starting team and grant small bonuses (eg. Cynthia gets bonuses to researching archaeological finds). You can also design your own custom trainer with a selection of weighted traits to pick from.

Zoo manager with Pokemons, you can breed and trade them, use zoo revenue to get better training gear and evolutionary items, depending on how ambitious you are you either just buy the Pokémon or unlock biomes where you can catch them yourself. Could still have some battling too

This is still the most interesting idea
I actually want to develop it since it seems like a good backdrop for all the things I’ve wanted to make

Only problem is I have no experience in game making
So it’s all just theory crafting at the end of the day

There's potential to make something neat here, but just another "Pokemon online" game wouldn't be worth the time investment. It'd have to do something unique. I'd be interested to see where it goes though, since I've made a handful of web games inspired by flash games in the past myself so this kind of thing interests me.

Thanks for the interest anon
Yeah I definitely wanna capture the simple spirit of a flash game
In my mind I’m picturing some sort of dual system where you battle premade gyms or dungeons and if you lose, the owner gets a reward, and if you win you get rewarded
Then you’d use those rewards to buy items / pokeballs / pokemon etc
Would want some sort of market place too
But idk how implement a system like that

op wants to "captures the spirit of old flash games" tough. Altough it depends for what.

>>57893528 (OP)
There are a lot of community open source sprite repository made for fangames btw you should go check them out. It will definitely help as a lot of games used/uses those.

Thanks I’ll try and find it
I wonder how easily this could be done with minimal coding knowledge
I don’t think it would work as a romhack since I want you to be able to face other players’ gyms and all that and want trading / marketplace

Used to think I miss Pokemon Crater but on hindsight I miss the comfy childhood days when I played it. The game mechanics are shit, just your standard browser game with no coherent battle system, watching the screen refresh and numbers change randomly
