I agree with this anon about what Eternatus is supposed to represent, but the main issue is that it's disconnected from the story of the dogs.
Gen 8 has Eternatus fill two roles, the evil dragon for the dogs to kill and the source of the fossil fuel, but it doesn't bring the two roles together or expand on things, which makes it feel flat. It also doesn't bring together any of the other ideas it brings up, so every legend in gen 8 is one note.

I think that it's supposed to be the meteor caused the K-Pg extinction, and the resulting dynamax particles are the fossil fuels that it caused which I know isn't how coal and oil formed and the two extinction events are hundreds of millions of years apart, but I think that there's a casual link that's close enough for a children's game.

Megas are more fun to fight since they don’t just because the rules of the game and are all handcrafted to make alternate forns for Pokemon while having some restrictions.
Dynamax is just a whole mess. It combines a bunch of random mechanics and breaks multiple established rules (Hyper Beams with no drawbacks, free Fake Out and Protect bypassing, super effective damage dealing less damage than neutral damage without Dynamax, etc.)

It's also like looking for similarities between Xerneas and Ho-Oh, with their notion of bringing back life/eternal life and their rainbow-lit side, and Lugia and Yveltal, with their destruction side, to say that they're the same. But it's not really the case (apart from an overlapping sub-theme).

With Generation 9, we're talking about a distant past that's prehistoric, with dinosaurs and a primitive environment, and a distant future based on robots and the apogee of technology. Not to mention the timeless turtle that makes crystals, gets younger and older by changing shape.
