Fire Red Essence isn't too bad. IIRC it's both groups of mons, plus running shoes from the start, and I think some other small things. Nothing stupid like "all the mons in" or gym leader updated teams

I remember FR was my first game and searching for a long time to find a slowpoke not realizing that it's only in LG because the fucking pokedex still shows you where it would be found if you were playing the other version

They who were tasked with selecting version exclusives must've thought Golduck is Water/Psychic because it's very awkward both Starmie and Slowbro, none of which were version exclusives in Red/Blue, are only available in LeafGreen.

Gen 3 is weird for its exclusives
It wasn't until the last game Emerald that you can catch a lot of Johto Pokemon

If you are worried about sullying the original experience, check out FireRed+. For your needs, it has a version selection feature. You can swap between FR/LG encounter tables from the in-game options. It'll even change the origin game so the Pokemon transfer legitimately.

I think the origin game trick is neat for post-game Safari Zone. The guy added expanded areas that utilize the additional Emerald Safari Zone Pokemon and like the version select, it'll say any Pokemon caught there orginates in Emerald. Transfers okay. There's a lot of other cool features like a built-in Nuzlocke mode, Challenge Mode with improved teams and AI, instant text and move reminder allowing you to pull from pre-evolutions.

If you're emulating, you can do what I'm doing and just load your save into the other version whenever you wanna catch an exclusive (or trade the same Pokémon with yourself to evolve trade evos)

All of these can be obtained in other gen 3 games (generally colosseum or xd) except Slowbro.
If that helps

>Arcanine vs. Ninetales
Arcanine has better stats but its' moves are awful, pretty much the only thing it has over Ninetales is access to Bite. Growlithe gains flamethrower at 49, but Vulpix gets it at 29.
>Slowbro & Starmie vs Golduck
This isn't even a competition - Slowbro is better in every way. If you need specifically a fast water, there's better options than Golduck, like Leaf Green's Starmie.
>Electabuzz & Scyther
Scyther might be cool, but it still doesn't do anything particularly notable unless it evolves into Scizor, which you can only get the metal coat for on the postgame sevii islands.
Electabuzz is a solid Electric type with great stats and some nice TM coverage, but its' role can be supplanted by Raichu or Magneton.
Of the Pokemon you're interested in, I think Leaf Green has the better exclusives. Fire Red's Oddish completely mogs Leaf Green's Bellsprout, though.

I will never understand why they changed the version exclusives from the originals. If your stuck playing solo and can't trade your fucked for psychic types while they give the two exact same type pairings to one game.

>I will never understand why they changed the version exclusives from the originals
GF decided to go the Yellow route by making Mankeys available before Brock so you wouldn't have a challenge in case you've picked Charmander (which funnily enough learns Metal Claw naturally at Lv. 13 in FRLG specifically for that fight). And since the inclusion of Mankeys in both FR and LG in as early as Route 22, a species which had been a version exclusive only obtainable through Pokémon Red in as early as Route 5, is not faithful to the OG games, GF must've decided to approach the remainder of the version exclusives matter loosely rather than strictly.
