As it's been said many times before, what people say on the internet is not reflective of how the general public thinks and behaves.
Just like all the people saying Switch 2 was going to be the next Wii U because of the price of the consoles, accessories, and games and vowing to not buy Nintendo products because of the Key Cards... well, here we are not even a week after launch, and it's already the biggest launch in console gaming history.
The next Pokemon game could somehow run worse and be even buggier than SV with an even crazier dexcut and it would still print mountains of money.
Normies don't care.

Launch sales for hardware don't really say anything but how much stock was available to meet early adopter demand. Early adopters are always more hardcore consumers and there's no way to tell what the demand is from soccer moms until at least after a year. launch numbers for the wii u and switch 1 were very similar.

interesting how there was basically no growth in sales from Swish to SV
I can’t tell if it’s because Sword and Shield repulsed as many people as Scarlet and Violet enticed or if it’s just been the same 26 million people buying the next games over and over again

second pokemon games always start out stronger, but have weaker legs. It's due to the fact that second games on the same system have little innovation and is usually cut short by a new console coming out. XY outsold Sun and Moon, DP outsold by BW, the history repeats.

Switch 1 would have sold a shitload more at launch, had Nintendo the stock at launch. WiiU's failure led to less stock for launch, along with an utter redesign of the box the thing came in, to limit warehousing costs, if it turned out to be another turkey.
It also says plenty about the other two manufacturers, they don't produce as much stock, knowing it'll be a sell-out to their drones and hopefully create normie buzz (along with giving the ubiquitous scalper cunts business-by-proxy). Nintendo having the biggest console launch and STILL being able to ship stock out (maybe not in specific spots but generally) means cunts like the 'tard who bought a pallet of systems wholesale's gonna find it hard to shift for any kind of profit, when stores have stock to give people who're looking.

Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in the first four days of launch. The Wii U hadn't even sold that many units after a month on the worldwide markets. Launch numbers for Switch 2 aren't at all similar to Wii U, or any other gaming hardware. Again it goes to show regardless how people feel on the internet, there is a massive disconnect from the general public. You'll see it again when Pokemon ZA launches. Some anons here like to make posts celebrating a total lack of interest in the game, and social media may talk about how the game looks like crap, but it's gonna sell millions of copies between its October release and the end of the year, and continue to sell millions in 2026.

the switch 1 launch numbers were only slightly higher than the wii u's. all major console launches in the past few generations were majorly supply constrained. both the ps5 and eckbock series sold out completely in minutes not hours. what the switch 2 has is a major stock suprplus because nintendo has been sitting on it for years. nvidia finalized the hardware a while ago.

none of this is indication of the level of demand from the general public.

I'd say it speaks volumes that even though Nintendo has managed to have huge numbers of Switch 2s available for launch and still is easily selling through the entirety of that stock is an indication that demand is very high for this console. If the high demand wasn't there, it wouldn't be doing the kinds of numbers it is.
If the PS5 and Xbox, and hell going back to the Wii, had massive stock available at launch, then maybe Switch 2 wouldn't hold the title of having the biggest hardware launch in gaming history, but we'll never know. What we do know is despite the campaign against Nintendo, the console is selling extremely well, just as the boycott against Sword and Shield ultimately had very little if any impact on the sales, same with Scarlet and Violet. People are free to say whatever they want online, but the consumer continues to vote with their wallets.

Generously, they've sat on it a year. With L: Z-A getting a Switch 2 glow-up revealed, after they started revealing more of the game, it's clear from Teraleak, this was planned last year. That we got a leak from a supposed outsourcer claiming an SV patch upgrade which eventually turned out true (we knew the DLC stuff was legit long ago) when they launched the S2 and the upgrade live on launch day proves it. Never mind the plethora of non-Nintendo-focused insiders all pointing to a late '24 reveal (I believe it was September, which would be perfect to then drop Pokémon for christmas), before pivoting in mid-'24 saying Nintendo were pushing it back to build stock (they knew S1 release was a bit of a shit-show, knew S2 would be highly sought after and wanted to scuttle as many scalper cunts as humanly possible, by flooding the launch market with systems). Hell, even the BL4 S2 trailer LOOKED like something recorded for the project in 2024 - no revealed info, no hard date, just generic "2025" as if there was still a chunk of time to pass before being able to go in-depth.

TPC don't see any cut of core pokémon games anon. Nintendo front the budgets for their systems, Game Freak make them for the systems, there's no "TPC is the middle man, organising game deals with nintendo and passing game budgets to Game Freak".
TPC was set up to handle everything BUT the Game Freak games. they see no profit from any sales, beyond the games they produce and sell themselves (partly why they've gone ALL in on mobile - no cunt buys TPC games, thus TPC doesn't earn much game revenue). And this has always been the case, given Nintendo and Game Freak have a relationship going back to 1989, some 11 years before The Pokémon Company became a thing in this world to handle the ungodly amount of merchandise requests, spin-off material and anime production the thing had already spawned in droves at that stage of humanity.

We won't know if the pricing has an impact with general audiences because they don't buy things at launch. We'll have to wait till the post-holiday sales to establish a trend. Even the ps5 pro had a sucessful launch only to fall well behind the ps4 pro in later months thanks to the price.

If pricing were as big of an issue as online chatter said it would be leading up to launch, the Switch 2 sales wouldn't be as high as they are, but more in line with the Switch 1 launch, or perhaps a little lower. Regardless of the price, reports indicate that as stores receiving restocks, the new stock is selling out within a few hours. Nintendo's diehard base has never been huge historically; from the Wii U to the Gamecube, to the N64... the 3DS needed a price cut because of how poorly it was selling out of the starting gate, and that was directly due to the price. It's not just the diehards that want this; it's the general public, too. Despite the higher prices and Game Key card controversy, Nintendo is somehow managing to do something they've never really been able to do before, which is retain the demand and interest among both the diehards and normies, something they couldn't do going from the Wii to Wii U or DS to 3DS, as shown in these initial waves of sales reports. As long as Nintendo keeps the 1st party games coming and keeps 3rd parties onboard, then there's a strong chance this trend continues.

>directly due to the price
For a badly outdated piece of kit (Nintendo used older chips than take a loss on the batch they're already bought). If it was maybe a bit better, there may not have been the backlash there was, but due to the double whammy of price and it being obsolete meant they weren't going for it.
>Nintendo is somehow managing to do something they've never really been able to do before, which is retain the demand and interest among both the diehards and normies
Because Switch 2 is the first time they went nice and simple with their platform naming conventions, improving what people loved about the previous unit and gave it more power, to allow more third party devs sell on the platform. Everyone remembers the WiiU debacle, without knowing what the system was, you'd assume the Super Nintendo Entertainment System to be a revision of the Nintendo Entertainment System and not a whole new unit. And thanks to Sony proving people understand "Unit Number" naming conventions, they FINALLY went the sensible route (I haven't a scooby what the latest xbox's supposed to be called, on the other hand). Sometimes just doing the same but bigger/better is plenty for people, especially the kind of people who'd buy a Nintendo system either as their "Main" console or as a secondary option to PC/PS/Xbox.

As I keep trying to explain to children who didn't get to go outside to school that year, covid gave a LOT of people a reason to buy AC, because "virtual meet up" for the povvos who couldn't afford a PC to run Zoom. What's the current player numbers like? Because they're the absolutes who WILL buy AC again, but expecting another 47m sales marque's retarded. The conditions most picked iup the game for don't exist to drive a similar uptake of any future entries. (Shit, I got gifted Smash and played the SP for a bit, realised I didn't like the game and it's since sat in my card case gathering age. I'm still a statistic for its sales tally.)

Pokémon wasn't locked to one file, one system, one person like AC was (so for granny and mammy and grandson to "meet" virtually, they ALL needed consoles, instead of mammy and son sharing one for Pokémon). Again, NEVER underestimate the normalfags' ability to spend so much money, for so mean an idea. Switch Lite was out then, cheap as fuck way of getting a system too, so even povvo NEET's could touch base. Hell, my 3 cousins each bought a DS Lite, just because Mario (they had an NES as little girls in the 80's). Didn't CONTINUE to play console games, smartphones and mobileshit rose up and they found those adequate timewasters instead. They were so out-of-touch, they didn't realise the DS had a built-in stylus in the unit, until they saw me pull the stylus out the side of mine, leading to the three of them turning to me stunned and asking how I'd done what I did. And you're expecting these type of people to buy AC again, much less 47m+ worth? You're loopy, actually clinically insane if you think AC will get another covid bonus with no covid to drive it.
