Kalos had simultaneously some of the best locations in the franchise and some of the worst. Shame about the main characters. The rivals were just walking tropes wit no story, and team flare's execution was just sad even though Lysandre's personal motivation had great potential.

kalos has all these big setpieces like this, but then they are just hollow and empty and you only visit them for one lame scripted event and there's nothing to do there. so it just deflates the whole thing. feels like they were trying to hard to force Kalos to have character.

More like Galar. Unova does have a lot of gimmick locations, but at least you can explore them. Galar gives you Bowser's castle and the entire fucking city of London and you can only access a street in each.

Yeah most routes suck in Unova. When speaking of exploring I mainly thought of the cities, some of which I think are among the best in te franchise, and some optional areas like the passage under the desert, twist mountain, some optional routes in the northwest.
