That every DS release was an improvement compared to all the games before it, although B2/W2 was a step back plot-wise (and solely plot-wise) because they wanted to have a sequel, but at the same time, something that didn't required playing the previous game.

The third generation I played (started with 2 then played 3. Skipped 4 due to my family being in a weird financial situation). Honestly pretty enjoyable. Though I don't like it as much as Gen 2 due to nostalgia.

I don't give a shit about BW's story, but BW2 had some of the most fun overworlds to explore, on par with HGSS. Lots of hidden locations, special encounters, optional minigames. All in all the region felt very alive.

BW was the start of GF bending the knee to the casual crowd

BW is peak pokemon for the story, BW2 removed what made gen 5 memorable

i feel weird, because bw came out and i loved that, had like 220hrs in it just under a year on my White, remember thinking it was peak
but then i got Black 2 and i just couldnt get into it, it was only a year after too.. maybe i was just burned out on unova, i recognise it being a good game but for some reason i just didnt stick with it

I feel like it would be my favorite but I prefer Gen IV more aesthetically

Black and White are fun. Black and White 2 feel like bad rom hacks with legendary coming out of nowhere to be caught. I never liked how Japanese Unova felt. Ive seen this thrown around a few times but Unova looks like America if it lost WW2 to Japan. The business men in the city are obviously Asian. People sit on those Japanese cusions on the floor and it just doesnt really feel urban enough. I do like the decapitated concrete building at the beginning of the game. Really needed more of that kinda look if you ask me. The starters are sort of clever representing 3 countries that helped shape America.

i enjoy it, there's a wide variety of available mons & a good amount of shit to do, even if some of it is fairly small or detached from the main game like pokestar or yancy/curtis
it's not without flaws but no pokemon game is. pokestar did NOT need a forced tutorial and gym leader teams are pretty underwhelming even into the lategame. key system is also giga retarded.
obviously it had more substance when dream world was around and when it was the latest game (meaning people actually did multiplayer shit), but that's true of any pokemon game

Its intersting BW2 are the only games with dating. Lol guess its to put emphasis on the MC's age. Seems like they wanted to do something similar with X and Y but they probably cut it down for time and just made it like a weird friend date watching fireworks.

They're a bit slow in the beginning, but really good as a whole. Gen 5 has a lot of my favorite mons.

i like the little side quest, it's cute, but it never really feels like dating, if that's what it's intended to be. maybe i'm misremembering but the dialogue never really went into yancy/curtis's interests, and since the protag is a blank slate to self-insert as, a lot of dialogue was just

If that were the case, then why didn’t they fix it in BW2? Usually, things like that get fixed in third versions, yet in BW2 the sprites are practically identical, except for maybe some animations or one or two mon like Cottonee.

I really like BW 1, second game I replayed the most after RSE. It's the closest Pokémon felt to a regular JRPG which helped it stand out (SV nowdays also gives me this feeling and frankly I also like that game even if it runs like total ass).
However I never really felt like playing the postgame even if it's by no means bad. I did get a bunch of legendaries but for example only recently I learned of the undersea ruins (they're neat but the reward sucks, it should've been a legendary or very rare pokémon).
I'm a big fan of the Unova dex too, it has a good balance between cool and cute (shit starters though).
Also it has all my favorite husbandos in the series aside from Arven and AZ.....

BW2, I only played through it once. I remember the story feeling like a Disney direct to video sequel. Seeing N again was really cute at the time but nowdays it's moot when his Mastersex event felt like a much better reunion.
The keys thing was also retarded and the linked stories requiring 2 DS's to get was stupid. Didn't care for the side content either.
Marlon was hot though.
