Reminder you only think this game is better than what came after it because you were going through early-installment weirdness when it came out.

Agreed. Looking at it objectively, Gen 1 is the worst.

This, people who adhere to politically extreme viewpoints are retards with low IQs and will eat up any slop they're given if their side says it's good.

I also replayed it recently and had more fun with it than a lot of my other replays of Pokemon games like ORAS. The one thing I got annoyed by was the inventory management.

I haven't played all of the games or played too many of them recently, so I can't really state which I think is the best overall, but RGBY hold up really well because it feels like there's a really minimal level of bullshit. Once you beat Brock or so it feels like there's a decent amount of options for team composition or what order you want to do things etc.

I really like GSC and I think they have a lot of QOL improvements over Gen 1, but by comparison the beginning of the game just feels so fucking slow. I'm not even completely sure why since conceptually a lot of the early-game stuff is pretty similar. It feels like if you could have your first badge in Gen 1 in the same amount of time it'd take you to arrive at Violet City in Gen 2, and that your Gen 2 starter is more likely to be overleveled as well.

FRLG was a shit remake that plays more like a shitty version of Ruby than Red. Special split into SpD and SpA already turns FRLG into a glib facsimile. The intended to experience has guaranteed crit razorleafs, amnesia being a massive boost, and NO ABILITIES

Can someone explain this joke to me? I know it sound like a massive newfriend, but anytime someone posts rby/gsc on here they get responded to like this
Then, when I see people actually make those threads on /vr/ they get “>>>/vp/“ or “go back to your containment”

Is the joke just that no one wants them there in the first place? I never got it

i don't think it's good because i grew out of it but i look back at it very fondly, and it's still the most fun i've had with a pokemon game.

No I was one of the anti-genwun zoomers when that was the /vp/ bogeyman ('99 bab)
I only came back around to KANTOO after playing several of the games within a few years of each other and carefully considering what I actually like about the series. RBY are rough around the edges, but they have the strongest vision and surprisingly good design considering it built every foundation the series would continue to use for the next 30 years. I prefer FRLG since they clean up some of those edges, but I appreciate them. Turns out I was the retard all along

It was a simpler time when you could win with virtually any team at level cap if you had half a brain. Grind is easier, no effort values and no individual values. It’s a kids game through and through, like something a 5-8 year old would play and enjoy. That being said kaizo blue is based, and worth a look into.

Do note, casual games are not bad, this is not a bad thing if you don’t feel like blowing your brain out on marginally complicated mechanics like I do.

Yes?
Gen 1 being barely functional and having a bunch of exclusive mechanics and glitches is half the fun. I can't Wrap stunlock or 100% crit Razor Leaf in later games.
