>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.
>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck? You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

Applebros and Typhlosionbros... just hold on a little bit longer...
Yup it's cooked for this year's World Championships.
No good cards in Black Bolt and White Flare to counter Gardevoir (with Jellicent, the deck might be even more powerful) and the deck is way too dominant even with Marnie's Grimmsnarl as seen with NAIC.
It wouldn't be surprised if every single age division had Gardevoir as the champion.
Fucking disgusting meta.
HER game
Mega soon too (while psychic embrace gardevoir is in format still)
>>57908590The TCG isn’t as biased as the main series but gee fucking whiz The waifumon bias is real, the TCG sucks off Gard as much as the rest of the franchise worships ZARD.
I'm thinking that faggot grass fucker feed off all the grimm decks and helped gardy win yet another tournament
>>57908621gardevoir, greninja and charizard always get strong tcg cards. it's obvious favoritism at this point
>>57908631That's not true; Charizard was infamous for years for having unplayable cards that appealed to kids for having really high base attack damage.

if its necessary to have a winner then they usually get 2-3 extra turns to find game.
since this is top 48 it'll just go into a tie, so as long as tord doesnt just lose he'll timer stall it for a tie
this is why Bo3 is a meme, timer problems and ties happen way too often, they really need to fix it
You'd think he'd really know by now about slow playing

Remember kids, It doesn't pay to slow play
>>57908892He passed with Lillie's Clefairy to prevent a Blood Moon Ursuluna play
>>57908892Riley decided to pass instead of attacking, which forces Tord to NEED to take a knockout since the game was out of time and whoever has less prize cards wins.
Tord failed to get the jamming tower so Riley just gets to knock out Bloodmoon at the end for two prize cards which wins him the game.
Wish I’d get matched vs. Gardy instead of nonstop Raging Bolt coon shit but Arceus today has been nothing but glue-huffing troglodytes.

>>57908920They would have played until someone won
>>57908920If he takes the KO, Tord has Fez + two Drakloaks to find Ursa and an energy or Jamming Tower + energy + Dragapult. If he does either of those they'd be tied on prizes at 3, and the game continues. Riley's board was 3 monkeys at that point and he'd be unable to take a KO. He'd have surely lost.

Gardevoir is still here for another year friends. You still have time to kneel.
>>57908987nice energy. i still need to get a few of those for gholdengo
>>57908987It's crazy how dominant it's been since it was released
>>57908993Infinite acceleration is pretty broken. Even others like bax still need to recover it with retrievals
Paired with attackers who don't discard said energy, it means you have to leave the attack alive, or gardevoir alive. Either case wins for the gardevoir player.
people dread a garde meta but garde players are free

>>57909180You don’t play the Pult because it’s a 2-prizer, awkward to set up, and defeats the purpose of the deck. Drakloak is just a draw engine, nothing else.
>>57909184I thought that was the case but the psychic energy and budew made me think it was a new pult variant.
For me, it's Pokemon that are ignored in the video games that consistently get good TCG cards.
>>57909204I like when forgotten mons get good cards. Even budew was probably forgotten by most people until this card
>>57909204I wouldn’t call magcargo forgotten in the games. He’s good for hatching eggs.
>>57908621garde bias is relatively recent, it started around 2019, i like that gardevoir gets a chance to shine in the tcg because in the main series gardevoir got eclipsed by all the psychic/fairy mons with optimized stats made in the past 3 gens

You know what I meant.
>>57909348It not only heals you but also heals the opponent so it's less damage for monke to play around with. Also can create check mates since Scream Tail and Drifloon need damage on them to take big knock outs, so if you heal them they need either more energy on them that can get stuck or just be useless bench sitters.
>>57909381If you’re playing with the expectation that the other guy is a retard who will just trap all his energy on one mon you can both afford to ignore and he can’t get rid of it in any way (retreating) then why not just hope he has a heart attack and dies so the timer runs out? It’s about as likely.
>>57909373Can they change decks or do they have to bring what they played during the top cut. It would be interested if both of them decided to bring grimsnarl to counter each other gardies.

And the fact it needs 3 energy so at minimum you need rockets energy + energy switch to even attack. BEFORE even having 2 extra energy on bench to discard

>>57909622Remove any one of those latter issues and it'd be alright. 3 energy but being able to discard off itself is viable. 2 energy on active but discarding off bench is also so much better.
It's still a basic at the end of the day like miraidon so it shouldn't have unlimited damage cap that would be silly, so the 280 is fine. but it's just so clunky as is, they really didnt try with these trainer sets
I wish this guy was better.
>>57909633It’s the clunkiness for me, the damage cap for a 3 energy cost attack depending on you having 3 more team rocket pokemon on the bench just isn’t impressive. You can’t get everything you want, unfortunately.
>>57909635a. you can get it t1 with puffin, and use it to get pokemons youd normally need a nest ball for.

if you wanna be theoretical about it like that, then it's cap is 610 with maximum belt and 4 skeledirge using area zero and black belt. but you don't bring up that when discussing damage caps because it's ridiculous
it's already ridiculous banking on your ace spec as your only out to being able to ohko the meta decks. how do you cope on their 2nd attacker or even 3rd
>>57909660it already comes with power ups in its default deck, thats why i included it.

>>57909635I loved seeing this dude when I was playing poison arch
>>57909603> contrary to the idea that TPCI only cares about a small handful of pokemonBecause the real bad guys have alway Game Freak, think of a Pokémon you like that got screwed over. 9 times out of 10 it’s Game Freaks fault. And 9 times out of 10 that Pokémon that was humiliated by game freaks found success or even just some dignity in TCG, Go, or another spin off.
The only time I can think of TPC screwing over a Pokemon was throwing Porygon under the bus for Pikachu’s thunderbolt, but that’s an outlier due to real medical emergencies being involved, and being a genuine PR nightmare and has they just banned it for 1 year or 2 it would be understandable, but not 30 years and counting like let it go jeez
>>57909622Most trainers just seem unfinished. I legit think they forgot some cards for Misty. Only Marnie and Ethan are noteworthy and Marnie is just Grimmsnarl (which is damn good but it’s only one card). Ethan’s the only one that seems to be an actual archetype. Not sure if someone who made Journey’s Together was a HGSStoddler or has a crush on Ethan, but I’m not complaining.
>>57909701>only ethanand tr. even if you don't like the premade deck the theme itself is very versetile and the supporters are great.
>>57909658Anyone? I’m assuming it didn’t do well this tournament
>>57909706I’d still play it at locals even if it didn’t top, it’s a fun deck.
>>57909701I think a lot of it was also trying to capture the nostalgia for the gym series that’s been tried 2 other times in the past (~platinum and VS), but it seems a lot of things that have come out these last 10 years have been a lot more misses than hits.

>>57909703every deck is versatile, team rockets is actually pretty strict in its gameplan. like sure you can use murkrow in rare occasions to lock for a while but other decks also have maractus for that too
compare to a deck like flareon which can opt into flareons hitting 280+ like mewtwo, using leafeon for dark match ups or countering spread damage or sylveon to destroy set up decks. most also run clefairy for dragons and water ogerpon sniping as well, plus rotom as a 1 prizer. when you compare that to rockets you kinda realize that rockets is linear in gameplay and easily abusable

they better gut the upcoming psychic support
if they're gonna keep countering dragapult with clefairy and psyduck. then they need to print some gardevoir counters. not even grimmsnarll is enough
>>57911452I think flareon is expensive because it was released in prismatic which is a super scalped and sought after set right now. compare that to sylveon which was in sparks and was $2 when I bought it. I probably spent about $120 this format so far to build 4 decks.
>>57911485I’ll wait a bit longer before committing to eevee deck then. Do you have any recommendations on what to build? Most of the $150 came from acquiring Marnie deck and finishing joltik. A playset of munki was $6 after shipping along with froslass costing $5 for a playset which isn’t too bad compared to december
>>57911494>Do you have any recommendations on what to build?build decks you really enjoy playing on ptcgl. I saved a ton of money by playing random decks on the ladder before buying them. if you want a dirt cheap deck then moon dunsparce and festival lead are probably like $20 each to build.

Data's out. Grimmsnarl had good numbers vs Garde and Pult, but was kept in check by Bolt and Joltik.
>>57912019What's the point of bringing meme decks to a big tourney? What motivates these people.
>>57912035People who live in the area and went for the experience moreso than a realistic chance at topping.
>>57911948They are entirely different decks. One needs Ho-Oh to even function at all. The other is entirely a 1 prize deck.
>>57912019>prime catcher in joktik I understand they want to fish out the basics asap but wouldn’t that deck benefit from having secret box instead to survive extended matches? seems like that decks chokepoint is dealing with matches after exhausting their resources. A lot of them don’t even run rods or stretchers too which is odd
>>57912019I will be bringing that froslasspult build to locals.
>>57911948You're correct. Ho-oh/Magcargo focus on accelerating energy and hitting hard. E.Typhlosion focuses on using Ethan's Adventure to turn your discard pile ioto and energy bank and draw energy from that. I sort o talked about it here but Ethan's the only trainer that seems to be an actual archetype (multiple deck builds that feature Ethan).
>>57909701
oh and why 4 crispin? Why not run two with 2x rods? Noticed that in some matches they play 1 one at most since they focus on getting bosses out first
>>57912035>NOO WHY ISNT EVERYONE RUNNING MY HECKIN META DECKS!?Faggot
>>57912214Absolutely not, and I’ll list the reasons:
>Joltik Box has almost no draw power, relying wholly on Fez draws after KOs + Mew draws after emptying its hand, meaning finding Secret Box naturally is a crapshoot>if you aren’t finding it naturally, that means you’re using Arven, which means you’re locked out of Boss for the turn, which is bad>there are no “extended matches” with Joltik Box outside of niche scenarios where both sides are dead-drawing or the mirror where you’re trying to set up 2 Pikachus + Ursaluna to take 6 prizes>the deck’s chokepoint is being forced to go first when the opponent opens the nuts, and Raging Bolt (basically an impossible match-up)>you don’t need recovery as much if you’re smart with your resources, though I personally still play 1 Stretcher for grabbing back EnergyThe whole point of Joltik Box is chaining together KOs—2-2-2 prize map, quick and easy. Anything disrupting that, like having to take a turn off using Boss, is bad.
>>57912214the deck isn't built for long matches l it's built to overpower slower decks like pult and garde and win as soon as possible. hands doesn't survive very long and you rarely attack with pikachu more than once. which is why you don't have recovery in the deck because you win the game before you need it
>>57912214Prime catcher is definitely the play for Joltik because it's the most aggressive ace spec and it's Arven searchable. If you want to outlast someone, you'd be playing a different deck. I do feel like a stretcher and/or rod is good in it.
>>57912225Crispin is the main way you get a metal on Pikachu, and it also loads up Clefairy in 1 turn for the Dragapult matchup. On turns you don't need to gust you should be spending your Crispin to load up your next threat while you hands them for 2.
>>57912225The deck goes fast. That’s what it does. It exists to prey on Pult, Gardy, and Grimm. You don’t want to get dragged into a long game vs. any of them in the first place.
>piper lost due to only running 2x Grimmsnarl
Why?? Why in the fuck would she do that? There’s a reason why the japs run 3x copies of the fucking thing and she learned the hard way

>>57910004>>57910042>>57910427I'll probably pick the cards up just to keep an eye on them, I do quite like Metagross. I wanna mess with the BW cards too because Klinklang, Bisharp, and Ferro are some of my favorite mons. Klinklang's ability is great, but for a stage 2, I dunno
>>57910331Gholdengo's what I've been messing with online, it doesn't really embody the bulkiness associated with Metal but playstyle-wise it hits the sweet spot for me. The last time I played for real was mid-SM era with Dusk Mane/Dialga GX and I played Blacephalon too: Gholdengo EX captures that pretty well to me. Amass a fuck ton of energy and throw it at them all at once, literally in Dengo's case.
>>57912252>>57912249>>57912242>>57912241>>57912240Thanks for breaking down the deck for me, makes a lot more sense to me now. I thought the point of it was to pick off basics first three turns and focus on pikachu late game. Guy on stream struggled to chip pult after it had set up its first one. I thought maybe then it could focus on using pikachu to clean up after setting up clefairy
What would it need to push its limit or is the deck complete as is similar to gholdengo?

Other than that, the deck’s more or less complete.

The guy who got 5th with Toedscruel just got lucky he matched against pult mostly.
>>57912263The average game vs. a slower deck is:
>Joltik, load up Iron Hands>attach to Pikachu, Iron Hands, take 2 prizes>attach to Pikachu, Iron Hands, take 2 prizes>attach to Pikachu, Pikachu, take 2 prizesThere are obviously games where things don’t go this way (for example, vs. Grimm and Zard, where you can use Galvantula to KO their attacker and force them onto uneven prizes), but that’s the attack plan.
