I feel like gen 4 is right around the time Pokemon lost its soul. Am I wrong? Donโ€™t get me wrong, I love the games up until gen 5, but it was still soulless after DP. Even this websiteโ€™s captcha is soulless now.

Agreed. The formula of going through 8 gym, beat E4 and then champion was old by that point and there wasnt really anything new or interesting added apart from a few features courtesy of the console it was on. The mons were uninspired jobmons or objectmons with fanart-tier crossevos thrown in, the legendaries looked retarded and the graphics were very underwhelming for what should have been possible on a DS. The beginning of the end...

Are there good subs for the nip dub? I've always been interested in watching the original but don't look into it since /padt/ is rancid

I think the anime lost its soul in g5. Committing to Ash being ten, turning Ash into a retard that you hate you so much you root against him (Elesa battle), taking away references to older episodes and characters while the old anime celebrated its lore with stuff like Pokemon Chronicles, and making Ash have a terrible rival after Paul

You weren't playing Pokemon games for the graphics at any point. Fool's errand

Why would you watch subbed Pokemon, especially the early stuff? The charm is in the shitty dub.

Hasn't it only been a year technically? Primate will probably be on the circuit from a couple of years so Ash will pick him up soem time after the series end. Maybe he will evolve it?

No, it's irritating. Ash gives away or largely neglects to use anything but the starters and pikachu until the very end of the indigo league. And the weird "background pokemon can only be pokemon that have already had an episode" thing they do. So the first 25 episodes have nothing but pidgey, rattata, sandshrew, and occasion the starters running around when there are 146 different pokemon they could have used. Ash magically becomes trainer god after Sabrina, only really losing when it's funny to or it's been a few episodes since he's had a serious moment. Team Rocket and misty's legs are really the only thing that keeps you around

Has anyone heard of YAT Anshin! Funnily enough, I learned about this anime via reading up on Porygon incident. Apparently this anime also caused a seizure incident earlier that year.

I'm watching it right now, and it gives me the same type of feeling I get watching early Pokemon. Same fun 90s anime energy. Shame about the lack of subs. I have no idea why this anime is so damn obscure.

Also, that opening is heavenly

The anime kind of loses it around mid-Johto, though it does still have it's moments here and there. I think Hoenn is where it just kind of forgets about being kind of weird and sometimes a bit unhinged, and becomes irreversibly sterile. Also starts the trend of every attack exploding for some reason instead of battling feeling more organic.

The early Pokemon anime felt like a Japanese comedy show, more so than a battle shonen adventure like later seasons.
