I actually got into it for the first time a month or two ago. Was fun to mess around with some of the gimmick modes, but it became apparent that a big part of the appeal is experimenting with team building. Wasn't really my thing. I would rather make choices in game over before the game, but it was too integral a part of the experience to effectively ignore so I dropped it.

Yeah that's really fucking lame. Damage calc is okay, you can't estimate or calculate that in real time. But grinding knowledge over time and the enemy team analysis is part of getting better at battles.
I stopped playing comp a long time ago but I had continued and learned people were using that shit I would stop.

>literally mods the game to add sleep clause, etc, instead of requiring the player to follow those rules themselves
>runs at a much faster speed, which affects your decision-making (this is well-studied in speed chess vs normal chess)
>in-game timer in gens before 6
>actual mechanics which dont function the same as on cart, probably lots of small nuances missing as showdown devs can't access the source code
>RNG does not work the same as in the games
>allows you to "cancel" your choice(s) for each turn, catering to indecisive trannies, another mechanic which isn't in the real games

>shows HP as percentages to simplify it for thirdies instead of the actual health point values

How do people call this fanfiction slop Pokemon? It doesn't accurately represent the real games at all. If you enjoy this crap browser monster battle simulator, play what you will but don't call it "Pokemon"

When you get spoonfeed too much information it stops being QoL and takes away from the knowledge and information management aspect of the game. Showdown has coddled you way too much if you think the real game is suffering, modern gens give you all the necessary information during battle.

Why? I don't get the problem. It's just free information that's available anyway. It's just faster than having to go check the smogon sets or random battle sets manually. Cuts out an artificial knowledge "gap" and makes it all about the actual strategic part of the game.
>grinding knowledge over time and the enemy team analysis is part of getting better at battles.
But that's also still part of it? It also depends on if you're talking about randbats (premade sets anyone can just look up) or OU (idk what extension this is but there's extension that just give you a list of the highest usage sets or sets listed on the smogon page)
You still have to figure out the off-meta sets, what set they're actually using depending on the rest of their team, stuff like that. There's no extension that's going to give you some crazy accurate set of the entire team.

Only reason the games don't have a cancel button is you have to select a "fight" or "switch" button first. Showdownies made everything a mouseclick away so it's easier to fuck up and misclick.
That being said, if you're not waiting out the smogon timer til the last possible second you're opening yourself up to being easily cheated on.

Clef doesnt need boots retard.
Answer the question instead of deflecting. Why are smoggies perfectly Ok with taking Species Clause from the games, even for different forms with different stats and abilities, and they'll rip Sleep Clause from Stadium, but needing each mon to have a different item (like the games) is somehow too much?
Why can I slap lefties or life orb or boots on every mon and call it a day but I cant use Ninetails and A-Ninetails?

In general, it centralizes defensive roles around the few pokemon who make best use of uncommonly used items, while not having nearly as much of an impact on offensive pokemon, which together causes metas to shift hard towards HO/hazard stack.
Pokemon like Gliscor, who is already incredible, are even better because they don't use one of your very limited defensive items. Pokemon already has far more offensive items than defensive, and lots of the defensive items are also very valuable on offensive mons. This in turn makes checks and breakers that beat those empowered defensive pokemon even stronger. Meanwhile, the difference between needing to use LO vs expert belt is far less impactful.
Singles is also a far more suitable environment for hazard stack teams, which are also improved by the significant nerf to hazard removal in gen 9.
To be clear, I don't like the boots spam, but it feel like a consequence of hazards somehow becoming even stronger in gen 9 while also gutting removal options, and an item clause would make it even worse.

How so? Legitimately asking, since I don't see how an item clause impacts offensive pokemon very much at all, positively or negatively.
Offensive pokemon have a far wider suite of items they could use. You could make a legit gen 9 hazard stack offence team while abiding by item clause. Sash Glimmora, scarf/specs/boots/dice kyurem, Waterpon, Air balloon/black glasses gambit, booster valiant.
Meanwhile, defensive pokemon that don't need, or at the very least really want, either boots or lefties are relatively rare.

Ah, I see. At risk of taking a joke seriously, that isn't what happens.
Centralized defence leads to specialized offence. If gliscor goes from being on 1 out of every 5 teams you fight to 1 out of every 2, then you aren't going to see a wider variety of offence, you're going to see more people running the thing that kills gliscor.

I've been focusing on gliscor in particular, but item clauses rarely benefit weaker pokemon. The main winners from implementing an item clause are going to be the already strong pokemon that either use a unique or rare item, such as ogerpon or gliscor, or have a number of items they can run, like gambit, valiant, or lando.

Looking over the list, if it's limited to regionals it'd actually be fine. The best combos are double Moltres and double Slowking, maybe double Ninetails for the memes.
If it's any form difference, it's a catastrophe with shit like
>all Deoxys forms on one team
>double Magearna
>double Ogerpon
>double triple Kyurem special (depends on tier)
>whacky shit with a few genies
>multiple Rotoms
>Genesect wombo combo u-turn spam
>double Zamazenta
>Arceus shitstorm as mentioned
>double Urshifu
>not just double Giratina, but double Palkia and Dialga too
>double Gastrodon
>dusk mane AND dawn wings Necrozma
>both Caly riders because fuck you
