So I had zero experience with RPG mechanics, and because of this I didn’t know how to save (I’m french and on the menu they translated save to "sauver" which means to save someone, to save the game it should have been "sauvegarder" but that was most likely too long), so I kept restarting my game over and over every time I had to quit.
I picked different starters each time and it just so happens that when I figured out how to save with the manual I had Turtwig.
So while I like to say it was my first pokemon and it’s undoubtedly my favorite starter of all time and the one I have the most fond memories with, with Torterra being the starter that made me feel the most powerful for owning it, I’m actually not sure it was actually the first one I picked in my very first run. I faintly remember having chimchar at one point so maybe that was the first I picked. Impossible to know now
