Something that seems weird at first but as soon as full context is given, it becomes retardedly simple and clear (cf. Scarlet and Violet, due to the Scarlet and Violet books describing heath's journey into Area Zero). Assuming it's not directly related to the boxmon, of course (Ruby/Sapphire, after the Red/Blue orbs that control the box legends, Diamond/Pearl, due to the stone detailing on Dialga/Palkia, Black/White after the Yin and Yang, X/Y after Xerneas/Yvetal designs, Sun/Moon, due to Solgaleo/Lunala being emissaries of the celestial bodies, Sword/Shield as Zacian has a Sword and Zamazenta a shield). Dunno what SS's codename was, but remember SM's codename was niji/rainbow (found on Hawaiian license plates) and SV's being titan refers to the Herba Mystica fights, meaning Kaze/Nami could be referring to how we're going to get around the island (eg boat/airship) and entirely unrelated to the eventual names of the games.

That being said, they don't make separate builds that early, they only fork into two versions much further in development, so that the least amount of re-work is necessary.

Instead of Greece, what if Gen 10’s region is the rest of the Okinawan/Ryukyu Islands, with Hoenn being explorable ala Kanto in Gen 2?

I would like somewhere other than Europe for once. Plus we just had a Mediterranean region.

That's exactly what it is. Ever since Gen 3 where the legendaries basically became gods, the versions' stories have revolved around the legendaries on the box art, hence why the versions themselves are named after them.

This plus even in Japanese they've used either load words from English or the English word (spelled out phonetically in Katakana, as is typical for foreign words) for the versions since Crystal. So looking for native Japanese words that are opposites/pairs and start with K and N is barking up the wrong tree in the first place.

not 結晶(Kessou) even though they use the kanji for gold 金(Kin) and silver 銀(Gin)

The English loan words for Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, and Pearl are all the most common way to refer to those gems, but they could have used 白金(Shirogane) for Platinum instead of プラチナ (Purachina)

Gen 5 uses ブラック (Burakku) and ホワイト(Howaito) Not 黒(Kuro) and 白(Shiro)

If they were concerned about very young players not knowing the kanji yet they could have used kana to spell it out, either switching to hiragana to indicate it's a native word they probably know or sticking to katakana to match the rest of the title because it's cool.

Greece sounds cool, but at the same time, they should pick something that’s not European. Plus, we just had Paldea which is based of a Mediterranean region.
