After doing a few Google searches, I am slightly confused. In a Game Informer interview, Masuda says it took them 3 years to make SwSh. But in another interview, they say that Iwao only joined the project in September 2017, which is when actual production for SwSh started.

So was it 2 or 3 years of development time? The only logical conclusion is that they used LGPE's development to create the engine for SwSh, but it didn't become properly SwSh until September 2017.

What do you guys think? Is this a logical conclusion? And was this enough development time for SwSh overall? We should also take into account that this was the first game to include DLC, meaning that they had extra development time for Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra.

Both are correct, every new Gen gets 3 total years development, 2 total years actual production development. They take a year to build the story, region, cities, characters, building the engine, etc, then after about a year they start actual game production. This is how it's always worked as well, from Gen 2 taking 3 years, despite Nintendo expecting it in one year originally. After that, they always started production on the next Gen, while finishing up the to be released Gen (Gen 5 being an outlier, it started in 2007 not 2006, after Game Freak had hired more staff to the studio).

Care to elaborate? Because personally I really like SwSh, especially with the DLC included. I think it's one of the better Pokemon games, if not of the best.

So, what "shows terribly" in your opinion?

Thank you for your great explanation! I understand now. It was as I originally thought, but I just wasn't sure.

Why SwSh doesn't have any form of sidecontent? I mean basic stuff like Trainer PR, Battle Institute, Entralink, Underground. There's literally nothing to do outside the main story, there are no dungeons, the story is just incomplete (i want to believe they didn't want to make Rose look retarded on purpose), and the overall game is just very short and bland

The legacy of the gen 8 + dlcs has lead to a centralized meta around their legendaries rendering most others irrelevant.
Fuck everything about gen 8.

I don't know who you think I am. I love LGPE, but I am disappointed with BDSP because of the massive amount of oversights.

In general, I really like the Switch era, mainly because of 3 games: LGPE, SwSh and PLA. BDSP had potential, SV is meh but not bad, and Z-A is probably going to be shit because of the non-turn-based combat.

>the story is just incomplete (i want to believe they didn't want to make Rose look retarded on purpose)
How is the story "incomplete"? If anything, the story is just underwhelming, but that's typical for Pokemon. SwSh's story is not any worse than, say, RS's story, DP's story or XY's story, in my opinion.
