It's one of those things that could be cool but falls short of the mark most of the time. The best iteration was in Gen V with Tornadus or Thundurus. Having them only appearing in certain routes and having the overworld change to reflect their presence was good

Loses its magic when you learn to manipulate the spawn by walking between two areas, and again when you learn to prevent it from escaping which just turns it into a regular static encounter.

But really cool before that. Everyone remembers the confusion when different music played on an encounter, followed by a legendary appearing which you didn't expect. And then it promptly running away lol.

I think roamers are a good idea but players needed easier access to trapping mechanics for it to actually be a fun encounter type. Like 99.99% of players are never going to encounter latias with an overleveled trapinch or a sableye with mean look on their leading slot, so they're either going to fumble endlessly or just master ball it.

probably to not give you a free legendary before the postgame. I know the game devs couldn't have predicted that autists would speedrun their games, but it's incredibly boring to watch GSC speedruns to get a legendary beast and then then steamroll everyone with it. Not that pokemon speedruns aren't inherently boring, just feels like even lower stakes than plowing through with a nidoking or something.

Mixed execution. Groudon, Kyogre, Tornadus and Thundurus are great implementations, I also like chasing Suicune in CHGSS, but the actual roamers that just teleport around the map suck. They don't even pose a challenge, it's a mere goose chase.

I am not the biggest fan of it, but you fags surely need to understand that pokemon is played best when you donโ€˜t speedrun through the game. Take your time, raise different mons, breed some mons for attacks, natures etc.
game becomes more fun that way

Frustrated me as a kid, but I like it now. You should get maybe three or five turns before it runs though as it does take some of the fun out of randomly stumbling on it. Either you master ball it, or you chase it down with a flee prevention technique.

Giving you a few turns to try would be more fun in my opinion.

Maybe the chance to flee increases the lower its HP is. You can lower its health in the first couple of encounters, then by the time its HP is in the red, it'll try to flee every turn unless you can trap it.

I understood the gimmick. It fits with the theme of adventuring out and searching for something one-of-a-kind, but yes there is an argument to be made that roaming legendary hunting can be frustrating and time consuming.
>>57911309
>>57911327
But this is where Game Freak really nailed it with roaming legendaries. If you walk into an area in a Pokemon game where something like an intense weather condition doesn't typically happen, then that weather condition becomes an indicator to the player that within this area "something" is here. And if you stay long enough you find that reason. You don't get that with other legendaries like Raikou or Latios or whoever.

None of the games are hard enough for that though, even for children.
A major problem Pokemon has is that there's no incentive to bother to engage with any of the systems like EV/IV stuff, natures, egg moves, breeding at all, weather moves, most buff/debuff moves and so on, so outside of training some underused Pokemon (until they made EXP Share a ton easier to get and later made it mandatory), nobody really stops anywhere to smell the roses, there's no reason to.
