What is the absolute SAFEST way to transfer saves between systems?? Do I just throw all my Pokemon in Home? Is there a chance my Home data can be lost??

I keep a backup of all my save files on my PC.

You just do a system transfer. That retard did something wrong. If you just log in with your account you won't have pokemon saves from the cloud. Probably what happened.

These stories are always from people who make a stupid mistake and either don't realize it or use it as an excuse for attention, the latter explaining why they're always from reddit. In this case it's very easy for people to immediately blame the Switch 2 without thinking. I mean think about it, if losing Pokemon data was a remotely common issue with transfers, you would hear about it more often and there would be riots.

So sure transfer to Home if you're paranoid, but if you don't do dumb shit with your SD cards and follow the instructions properly, nothing will go wrong.

That primarily was with the ORAS cartridges because apparently they used shit materials because they were rushing against time and space for some reason. Other DS and 3DS carts were in far better shape
Side note: afaik, the only YouTuber who ever made a video repairing this shit was this dude. The problem? The video was a complete dogshit. If you care at all about your Pokemon you'd use the unofficial methods. Gamefreak has been fucking with your data since SWSH and I'm surprised they haven't gotten as much shit for it as they did Dexit. My pokemon are never touching Home.

I turned on my switch 2 the first time, followed the very easy steps to transfer everything from the switch 1 and I didnt lose shit, all my saves from Pokémon violet, brilliant diamond, let's go and shield are working exactly the same, Pokémon home too. He probably didn't do the system to system transfer where both consoles have to be close to each other, and everything is still on the switch 1, all he has to do is factory reset the switch 2 and do it. Pokémon saves aren't stored in the cloud, only locally. This is all explained when you turn on the switch 2 the first time, but reading is hard

You literally, do not, need, two Switches to in person to do a cloud transfer. Do you people even own a Switch 1? It's in the System Menu. Transfer to Switch 2 goes by your two options: Local or Cloud Transfer. The local makes a backup of everything including Pokemon and Animal Crossing; but it does not factory reset the Switch unless you tell it to.

The cloud transfer, which is what I advice most people to do, does the whole system backup and then it factory resets the Switch 1. The only reason you would want to do Local is if you're intending to keep the original console. It is not "1337 CIA injection hack", my Pokemon saves were pulled into the cloud and then picked up by the Switch 2. Not a single error, it was all seamless part of the backup experience.

What I want to know is why some people like you two are boasting so much, talking as a matter of fact, for something you've never done or even aware of. If you don't know that's not a crime, just keep your mouth shut. It's like saying to someone who got bitten by a snake they should suck out the poison like in the movies, stop talking. So many posts in this thread are talking about "Home", you don't need to Home to move Pokemon over from Switch 1 to Switch 2. They also don't know what they're talking about but they want to participate in the conversation as if they're an authority figure on the subject.

When you do a cloud transfer this screen doesn't appear because it's already nuking the console afterwards. There is L-I-T-E-R-A-L-L-Y no way of fucking up with either Cloud or Local transfers.

When I discovered that it was a forced save transfer, I cancelled the process, found a paperclip, and learnt to hack my Switch. Now everything is backed up, and I was able to make the upgrade worry free.
But let's face it, if they're transferring from GBA like they claim, they have a HOME sub. Why not transfer everything you want to keep there before doing something like this? Have these people never experienced a software bug ever?

The Switch 1 to Switch 2 transfer does work with those. In fact, you don't even need to download the seperate Animal Crossing transfer tool anymore, it just does it itself.

This happened to me when I did a transfer between my 3DS and 3DS XL. After it finished I had gone into the save data and the second I opened it it said "Preparing SD card" and formatted it instantly without warning. I had lost my nearly one year old Animal Crossing New Leaf save in the blink of an eye.

the 3ds carts don't keep the save data what actually happened was that the carts were failing because the shitty boards they used for the carts towards the latter half of the 3ds life cycle essentially turned them in to self wiping ticking time bombs if you went long time (about 4 years iirc) without playing it at least once a lot of carts being sold on ebay are also most likely one of those timebomb carts and people are unaware of it

I just didn't do the transfer. I'm fine leaving my Pokémon saves on my Switch. Every other game I can download the cloud saves at my leisure with the added benefit of not immediately clogging up my Switch 2's internal storage with some eShop games I haven't played in years.
