Day 16

I faced my first Hoenn Gym in Rustboro City, where the Gym Leader Roxanne came off seriously bossy—honestly, I half expected her to whack me with a ruler if I stepped out of line. Still, I kept my focus and took her down without much trouble. Mudkip easily washed away both of her Geodudes with Water Gun. Her Nosepass was trickier, but Shroomish made it manageable by opening with Stun Spore and Leech Seed before wearing it down with a barrage of Absorbs. Victory was mine.

Not long after, I got caught up in trouble involving a gang called Team Aqua. They had stolen goods from the Devon Corporation, but I managed to recover them. As thanks, I was asked to make a delivery—which led me to set sail for Dewford Town. There, I explored the dark depths of Granite Cave, where my Cascoon finally evolved into a majestic Dustox. I also caught a Makuhita stomping around inside. After finding and delivering the letter to a man named Steven, he handed me another task—another delivery.

So, I sailed onward to Slateport City and delivered the Devon Goods, only to find Team Aqua stirring up chaos at the local oceanic museum. After helping put an end to their mischief, I pressed onward, heading toward Mauville City. On the way, I encountered and caught a cheerful Minun to add to my growing team. My Hoenn journey was gaining steam—and I was just getting started.

it's a waste to have a full team already in the early game
better to wait until later areas to add more members beyond a starting few

Day 17

I began preparing my team for the next two Gym battles, training hard to ensure they were ready. During the grind, Mudkip evolved into a sturdy Marshstomp—stronger, bulkier, and ready for tougher fights. But the road came with its first heartbreak. While training, my Taillow was taken out by a trainer’s Meditite that landed a devastating High Jump Kick. It was my first loss in Hoenn, and it stung.

Trying to move forward, I caught an Illumise and decided to circle back to Dewford Town to face Gym Leader Brawly. The battle was smooth—Dustox handled everything with ease. Using Confusion alone, it took down Machop, Meditite, and Makuhita in clean sweeps. Victory in hand, I returned to Mauville City and prepared for my third Gym battle.

Wattson, the electric-type leader, didn’t stand a chance. Marshstomp tore through his entire team—Voltorb, Electrike, Magneton, and Manectric—spamming Mud Shot over and over with unrelenting force. Another badge earned, another step forward on my path through Hoenn, but the shadow of my fallen Taillow still lingered behind me.

Day 18

Leaving Mauville City behind, I journeyed north into the rugged wilds of Hoenn. Along the way, my loyal Poochyena evolved into a fierce Mightyena, ready to sink its teeth into anything ahead. But the road wasn’t kind—I lost Makuhita to a trainer’s Geodude after it hit with a brutal Magnitude. Another painful casualty.

Trying to recover, I caught a Numel and pressed on into the volcanic trails of Fiery Path, where I also snagged a Slugma. Unfortunately, its time with me was short-lived. Just outside the path, a trainer’s Roselia landed a critical Mega Drain, wiping Slugma out before it had a chance to prove itself.

Undeterred, I caught a dizzy Spinda and continued on, eventually arriving in Fallarbor Town. After a quick stop, I headed back out into the field and added a fluffy Swablu to my ranks. Just before entering Meteor Falls, I watched with pride as Shroomish evolved into a powerful Breloom, fists clenched and ready for battle. Inside the rocky cavern of Meteor Falls, I capped off the journey by catching a stoic Solrock, its glowing core lighting up the dark as my adventure marched on.
