I think evolutions should be high actually, I always found it lame how little time you spend with non fully evolved pokemon in these games
I also think it's lame how the series has gone on for over 25 years and the final boss levels are still pretty much identical to the first game in the series especially with how much more exp gets pumped out to your team in modern games, the games really need to start pushing for longer campaigns with higher level thresholds

good luck knocking out anything in a reasonable amount of time with unevolved mons' low attack stats compared to literally anything else you could be using
if anything they'll just take more damage than evolved mons with comparable defensive stats after eviolite, due to lower speed resulting in moving last more often and lower attacks meaning foes take more hits to knock out, letting them get off more hits

I kinda understand why they did it. Your pokemon evolving is always an hype moment and in previous game you basically had all your team fully evolved by the 5th or 6th gym so having pokemon evolving late allow you to have the hype of having a mon evolving even late into the game. But then there is the problem of having a NFE with bad stat in your team so they need to be put late into the game to not have you having a shitmon for most of your playthrough. Honestly they should have made all of them a 3 stage evo.

Bonus, postgame-exclusive mons are prefectly fine actually. It's only bad when it carries on to another gen where they're likely easier to get

It mostly feels lame because they also feed you a lot of stuff that hits a high 400s BST final at like level 20, or that has a third stage that's friendship or a stone or the magnezone thing, which is what you actually use. Then maybe you powerlevel 1-2 of the late bloomers for the E4. They need to change the ecosystem so second stage stuff is what you actually use if they're going to stretch out the evo levels. As it is everything that evolves at around level 50 and isn't Garchomp-tier feels like an insult, never mind shit like Hydreigon.

BW2 rectified most of these. Braviary and Mandibuzz can be caught as version exclusive fixed spawns in Route 4 once a week. Volcarona can be caught in the Relic Castle through an alternate enterance. Pawniard evolves late, but you'll probably have Bisharp during the Giant Chasm, possibly even before your last badge if you're playing on challenge mode due to the increased EXP. Every Unova pokemon except Hydreigon is a viable option.

Deino should have just been locked to a postgame area like Larvitar. A 5% swirling dust spawn at the end of Victory Road would have also been acceptable. Making Hydreigon catchable in XY's Victory Road was really cool.
