If you don't have a switch atm and really really want to play the gen 8 and 9 games, I'd say go for it if you can afford it. It's your life, you get to decide what brings you happiness, not some faceless randos on an old image board.

patiently waiting for a white Switch 2 to buy it for Z-A and Violet and whatever gen 10 is. if it aint white, Nintendo aint getting my money

Obviously all future Pokemon games after ZA will be Switch 2 exclusives (aside from whatever shit they put on phones), so if you plan on playing any new games in the future, you're gonna need one. Unless someone makes a Switch 2 emulator I suppose, but Nintendo pouncing on the Switch emulators probably scared off any devs.
For older games you obviously don't need one.

The Switch 2 doesn't even have physical copies anymore. The cartridges you buy are just keys that unlock the digital copy for you. It is the most anti-consumer system.
