Pokemon go buffed my niggas
>rampardos
Turns out speed stat being irrelevant means that it can easily take advantage of its huge attack without having to wait its turn
>aggron
Single defense stat means no gaping special defense hole for other mons to exploit, plus it doesn't have to worry about speed
Also apparently it's so good that the gym recommended party thing constantly suggests that I use 5 aggrons and a chandelure, often enough that it's become a running joke among me and the voices in my head that give me very good ideas

the "sabotaged" was tongue-in-cheek in OP's case. since Lanturn at least respectable in-game choice for players who are wiling to use things that aren't literally handed to them. Though in the main series PvP Lanturn's never been more than a ok in the lower tiers on its best days.
there are some pokemon Game Freak hate or doesn't respect but Lanturn isn't one of them.

>>57920974
Aggron gets suggested because, though out of non-mega/shadows/legends

Aggron gets suggested more for its resistances and bulk rather than its strength as a raid attacker, though last time I checked it out of non-mega/shadows/legends it was within the top ten steel raid attackers, so the algorithm got something right

Can we include Masters off on the side as well? That game's redesigning Pokemon to fit specific tasks in a 3v3 context resulted in some neat implementations, albeit gacha powercreep starts to make things silly.

Dunsparce at least had the honor of being great in at least the first half of the game if you could manage to grab it in Dark Cave at the start.

It was released 20 years too late. Had it been in Gen 2 it would have been Snorlax tier amazing. hell, had it been in Gen 4 which was mostly evos for old Pokemon anyway, it would have been solid, but game freak dragged their ass for 2 decades before finally remembering Dunsparce existed just in time for powercreep to the new evo pointless

Grumpig really had a zero-to-hero moment. Overall though it's nice that Go's meta favors some bulk-oriented Pokemon that don't see high-level use in main series like Stunfisk, Jumpluff, the Regis (minus gigas), Swalot, Cradily, Serperior, etc.

Companies hating a character or
sabotaging them to make a character they like look better is pretty common. Itโ€™s exactly what happens to Ron in the Potter series the director was a Har/mione shipper so he made Ron retarded and useless to make the other two look better.
Now, does TPC probably HATE any Pokรฉmon? Probably not. but itโ€™s an open secret Game Freak definitely does

Game Freak is a studio comprising many different artists and developers so the premise that they unanimously hate any single character is retarded. TPC is concerned with the brand and making money so "hating" a Pokemon is antithetical to their business, if they can sell plushes figs and shirts of Wurmple to kids and manbabies they will at least try. The internet has truly skullfucked your brain into a pudding my friend

>at least respectable in-game choice
Surf, Tbolt/Thunder, Confuse Ray, T-Wave is idiot-proof and Chinchou is very cute. Lanturn could use some work to lean into the anglerfish thing more. Main issue is just realizing it's there in the first placeโ€”as far as I can tell, literally no NPC trainers use Chinchou/Lanturn
>for players who are wiling to use things that aren't literally handed to them.
It'd be one thing if it were de facto postgame because the first time you met one was in the Cerulean City Gym or something, but as far as I can tell the only way you'd ever find out it even exists is by using a guide or blind fishing luck. I'm not saying it should've been "literally handed to" players, but at least put one or the other on somebody's team so you have some way of finding out it even exists.

you don't really need that luck since its fairly common with the Good Rod and its found next to the house of the guy who lives it to you, so curious player would find it right away. But at the same time, I see your point it would be easy to miss going in blind since there's nothing telling the player that they HAVE to fish. Putting it on a fisherman's team makes sense

20% in Olivine Port *specifically*. Not great, not terrible, but you'd have to be exceptionally curious, considering you've probably hooked up a Surf/Strength/Cut/Rock Smash Krabby by that point.

*not being lewd, there's just literally no reason to go with a male one in Gen 2 since sex is determined by the Attack IV, which on Chinchou/Lanturn is realistically only being used for confusion damage

That's Emerald, and in Emerald you can accidentally run into Chinchou in the seaweed on a couple of routes.
Failing that, there's a clearly imaginable train of thought from "what the fuck is that" to "it doesn't have a location, but it's a big fish and there's a blank space in the 'dex before it, better check the water routes for its prevo" to "fuck it, guess I'm diving for it"

This may shock you, but when the devs are making NPC trainers' teams, they're not using TMs and probably don't have any guardrails at all. Somebody wanted to spice up Cooltrainer Dianne's team and was like "Yeah, Lanturn can probably learn Earthquake" and the game got published without anybody fixing it.
