At the end of the previous season ship captain Friede fell off the airship, seemingly to his death. He was never seen again, and it fucked up the crew so badly they disbanded for a year. In this episode they finally get a letter from him saying he's okay, but he's under surveillance from the villains and didn't have a chance to send a message that he survived until now. The crew is relieved to hear he's alive.
