Mewtwo is the only one you need, but throw in Alakazam and Snorlax and you've got the ultimate 3-man team. You don't need anything else.

If I absolutely MUST have six, I'll take
>Mewtwo for end game sweeps
>Rhydon to switch into Zapdos
>Venusaur for Sleep Powder + auto-crit Razor Leaf and strong match up into the Waters and Grounds
>Dewgong for a solid, if outclassed, Blizzard and Surf spammer
>Mr Mime because Psychics are busted in Gen 1 even the shit ones
>Fearow... uh... outspeeds some Pokemon sometimes and can switch into EQs

Why the fuck is Dragonite in the 5 points tier? It was the shitmon-psuedo legendary before it got Dragon Dance and the physical/special split in Gen 4. Easily the worst psuedo to the point where it was often outclassed by sub-500 BST Flying types like Skarmory and Gligar.

Also, outside of VGC and Gen 3 OU, Charizard is the worst of the 3 starters, so why is it 4 points?

Actually, scratch Jolteon. I'm gonna need Parasect to win the Kyogre matchup. My goal is to kill the other weather setters and then Swords Dance up with Sand Veil Garchomp. Swampert is there to be my gluemon, Crobat improves my Groudon matchup, and Empoleon is generally pretty strong into the rest of the list with priority, Knock Off, Ice Beam, and Hydro Pump.

Except for Mr. Mime and Charizard, your team gets bodied by a singular Jynx. Even then, since Charizard is weak to Ice it can't switch in on Jynx ever, and Mr. Mime can't take repeated hits from Blizzard.

Hypno post-Special-split is a certified shitmon. Assuming this list is for FR/LG, that's a very fair rating for it. On the other hand, Kanto is filled with Fighting and Poison types so Psychic is a genuinely good type.

Lapras being on the same tier as Mewtwo is egregious, yes, but that's because Mewtwo belongs in a special 10 point tier. Lapras is genuinely broken in Gen 1 Kanto and is still strong in Gen 3 Kanto even if overall worse due to the nerf to Blizzard while everything else got better.

>gen 5 sprites
I think a team <6 is potentially better if you can get boost sweepers in
Mewtwo (cleaner in case Dragonite doesn't finish the job) Dragonite (pray to god I can sweep every non steel type after a few dragon dances) Magneton (takes down any steel types before sweep) Aerodactyl (Lead that maybe does something after setting up rocks)
>>57928606
In earlier gens, I think having multiple pokemon is worth it more than having a few top threats
Mew (sd rock slide does a whole bunch to everything) Golem (budget Rhydon and I hate Zapdos) Gyarados (budget Lapras) Porygon (Snorlax is gonna be there and this very likely won't do shit but its funny) Electrode (budget Jolteon) Persian (budget Tauros)
>>57928645
Kyogre (is very fun and scary) Parasect (Kyogre is scary) Forretress (I like spikes) Giratina (I want to keep spikes up and its the only ghost) Jolteon (Good way to deal with most spike immunities and spreads para) Aggron (very very budget Jirachi if Jolteon does its job well enough)
>>57928735
Dracovish (funny fish) Kyogre (helps out funny fish and is a funny fish in its own right) Dusk Mane Necrozma (keeps answers to funny fish in check and since this is obviously Natdex Ubers, I can either Searing Sunraze Smash or Ultra Burst)
>>57928752
How the fuck is Kingambit 2??? Taking that obviously Ogerpon (i fucking hate Gliscor) Lopunny (super fast which I need since sucker punch only has 8pp) Samurott-H (i do looove my spikes) Gholdengo (i do looove keeping my spikes) Iron Valiant (I should probably have one special attacker, right?)

Gyarados (it can maybe sweep the elite 4 and champion with enough healing items and can use 3 hms, it should really be worth 11) Grottle (I do need a starter in order to actually start the game) Luxray (good permanent member and the early game is easier with one more) Sneasel (Garchomp really scares me so hopefully I outseep and ohko as long as I get a good nature) Spiritomb (Feels underpointed, and I never had enough friends to get one myself) Bastiodon (not doing shit in any important battle except maybe aaron, but I love it)

Probably gives you the best overall effectiveness. Keeps all the necessary roles of gen 1 such as your fast electric, zapdos counter and 2 normal resists on the team and still has significant offensive threats like Jynx.

Oshawott ($5) replaced with Ducklett when possible
Stoutland ($35)
Ferroseed w/ Eviolite ($50)
Elgyem ($60)
Krookodile ($90)

Krookodile, Elgyem, Ferroseed, and Stoutland are necessary for beating Ghetsis. Oshawott can use Surf, Waterfall, Cut, and Dive. Stoutland can use Strength, which can be replaced by Return when all the boulders are pushed in.

Ducklett replaces Oshawott since it can use Fly AND Surf. I'd choose it over Oshawott if not for it appearing so much later on.

>Dugtrio
>underdog
I find Dugtrio to be alright in Stadium. it's the only fast Ground type in the game and it doesn't have a million weaknesses like some of its Ground type brethren. Rhydon is excellent at countering Zapdos in particular but it's slow speed and weaknesses hold it back a lot. it's hard to find a situation to use it in other than countering Zapdos. Dugtrio might be frail and lack Rock STAB, but non STAB Rock Slide is still good enough if you need to dent something that's weak to Rock. its fast speed means that not only is it good at switching into Electric type moves, but it will also likely outspeed and might be able to OHKO the opponent before taking damage depedning on what mon is one the opposing side. at the bare minimum, Dugtrio should be in budget picks tier. it's not the best but is certainly doesn't desrve to be lumped in with fucking Porygon and Machamp

Gen 1 Fire types didn't resist Ice. Charizard was weak to Ice since Fire was neutral and Flying was weak.

>Gen 1:
Jynx Blizzard vs. Charizard: 280-330 (77.9 - 91.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
>Gen 2:
Jynx Blizzard vs. Charizard: 159-187 (44.2 - 52%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Keep in mind Charizard's Special in Gen 1 was 85 and its Special Defense in Gen 2 was 85. Jynx actually got a +20 SpA buff in Gen 2 and Blizzard still hits for way less damage.

Dugtrio is actually so frail that it dies to far more than does Rhydon. The only thing it's better at taking is Persian's Bubble Beam since every other Water type attack is OHKO'ing both it and Rhydon.

The added speed is nice and all, but Rhydon and Golem have way more bulk, power, and utility. Blanking Normal attacks is a huge asset in Gen 1 where Normal is the best type.

APT isn't exclusive to DNite. Moltres does it better and Moltres still isn't considered broken. You can also switch out and waste Wrap PP that way. If your Gengar is still alive you can switch into that to blank it and then get a free Hypnosis off.

The crippling weakness to Ice, the 3rd most spammed offensive type after Normal and Psychic, doesn't help it any either. Of the top 5 types, the only one DNite can safely handle is Ground.

Dragonite can spread para, Gengar is not on every single team, and Moltres is also weak to ice. Yes, fire spin does more baseline damage, and there isn't anything like Gengar that completely prevents fire spin. However, Dragonite has a much stronger hyper beam and handles Chansey better, and Chansey IS on almost every team. Other than that, their weaknesses are pretty similar. The only reason I'd ever pick Moltres over Dragonite is if my team is particularly weak to Gengar or I really need something with strong fire moves.

Gengar's Hypnosis is scary in Gen 1. Sleep is practically a OHKO. Not as bad as Freeze, but still very bad. Speed tying with Tauros is also a huge deal since it means that Gengar can kill Tauros in a pinch. It's basically an Exeggutor expy which is why it's on >1/4th of teams.

That being the case, it's a pretty good bet that you'll run into a Gengar pretty often which is why APT isn't banned in OU while it is banned in UU. Haunter is much less reliable and much more susceptible to getting BTFO by Moltres and Dragonite so APT was banned. I'd much rather have Cloyster and Moltres use Partial Trapping moves than Dragonite IMO. There's a reason why Victreebel, Golem, and Persian have a higher usage rate than Dragonite (this is 1700+ ELO, by the way).

I have played RBY OU, yes. I am aware of how statuses work in gen 1. I am also very aware of what makes Gengar good, and I know that Dnite is not a top OU threat. Anyone who knows how to check smogon could figure that out, as it's UU by usage. The poster I was contesting called it a shitmon, which it clearly is not, being a top 20 pokemon by usage in high ladder RBY OU.
>I'd much rather have Cloyster[...]

And based on your pic, a high ladder disagrees with you. What's your point again?

High ladder doesn't use Moltres because Fire types unfreeze Frozen Pokemon which is a big no-no. That's about it really. Neither have any significant usage in OU, and Gen 1 only having 81 fully evolved Pokemon means that Dragonite doesn't make the cut for the top 25% (because Mew and Mewtwo bump it down two spots).

It's safe to say that Dragonite isn't exactly good in Gen 1. Not a shitmon, but it's heavily outclassed and only really used for fun.

I hate Gen 1 gameplay so much bros. There's 0 customization for the Pokemon except for their movesets. No items, EVs, abilities, natures, IVs, hidden power, or generational gimmicks. 90% of the Pokemon have fewer than 5 viable moves so your customization is exceptionally limited.

It's basically Chess at that point.

What would you even do with 6 Misdreavuses? You'd be like one of those crazy cat ladies except your cats can phase through walls and hit you with a Shadow Ball.

Mr. Mime is just budget Alakazam, except it levels up faster. It's not an underdog by any means.

Mr. Mime has invaded my home. I heard the sounds of miming from my closet, only to find that the monstrous Frenchman had grown enormous. I tried to run, but could not outpace the Baton Pass-boosted beast. I barely managed to cry โ€œThis is insaneโ€ before getting hit with a Calm Mind-boosted Psychic, killing me instantly.
