Game Freak should include every previous-gen Pokémon in every new Pokémon main game they make, while still adding over a hundred new Pokémon each gen and have the games be on top of that. They easily could and there is no excuse.

The dex cut was not inevitable and the amount effort to include all previous gen Pokémon does not scale with the amount of Pokémon. So none of this stupid idea that eventually they would have had to do it at some point.

There is more effort involved, but it's less than you'd think and more than you'd hope. This could also be resolved by not having to shit out a game for the holiday season constantly which is resolved by one game with consistent updates like basically every other game that extracts money from children these days.

They should've stopped doing this if the workload was becoming THIS unsustainable. SM had it right, being able to transfer old shit into the new game would have been fine even if there's no NatDex. But I knew Dexcut was coming when SM didn't bother having a NatDex and people were fine with that. SwSh just had a myriad of other issues on TOP of DexCut and should not have been successes. SV may be mediocre games, but I'm glad they immediately supplemented SwSh's undeserved success because now those games are going to be forgotten as anything but the point of absolutely no return for the franchise. SwSh will remain this franchise's Sonic 06 moment where things needed to change going forward

By "NatDex" people usually mean "all species supported", not the literal option on the pokedex menu.

That's on them for not noticing it gone in SM. That's why I said if they really didn't want to do NatDex proper, they should have just done what they did in SM. Instead they let the genie out of the bottle to grand their wish and now we'll never see NatDex again because they don't have the expectations to include it

Pokemon that are gigafuck popular like Pikachu, Gardevoir and Lucario will now be in every game while it's a coin flip if they feel like adding unpopular shitmons. Again, if adding 100 new mons every 3 years was unsustainable, the either should have started cutting back on new mons entirely or started delaying games for longer than just a 3 year cycle per generation. This new system more negatively affects newer mons than older ones, because now newer ones need to instantly be popular out the gate to become mainstays otherwise they're tossed aside into the fucking trash like the half-assed content they are

But yeah, my point is if you didn't see this happening when the franchise's 20th anniversary games didn't feature a way to legitimately record and own every Pokemon without transfer, I don't know what to say

You weren't there. It was noticed at the time, but was appreciated that even old mons got new entries and not really worth a large complaint. Its entirely unrelated to the actual lack of the full roster that is the dexcut.

>if they really didn't want to do NatDex proper, they should have just done what they did in SM
Anon, you had 6 years. The dexcut isn't the lack of a "national dex" option in the pokedex menu, its the game not supporting all currently available species. THAT's what they wanted to do.

You dumb fucking faggot I bought Sun on day one. I noticed it immediately when Bank compatibility was added. That was my turn off point for the franchise so SwSh didn't come as a surprise to me. The reason I'm bringing up the menu is because the menu was the proof that they still wanted to have games document the franchise's focal point and legacy. Without it, it's easier to wean off the shills from wanting all the Pokemon in every game. Trying to dissuade my intent is a fool's errand. My six years has been well spent not spending a fucking dime on this franchise because it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. I'm here to enjoy the memories of the older games and make fun of you all for still seething over an obvious outcome from a failure of a studio that couldn't keep up with impossible demands they set upon themselves. I'd been avoiding the obvious elephant of the room that RS caused the original dexcut because "as long as they're in the data it's okay" which has always been inherent cope. The last generation to really let you fill out a Pokedex with just the current games released in its era was Gen IV

This isn't about game quality or even the people in charge making compromises for their corporate overlords. It's about the fact that a machine can't keep pumping out content at a higher quality with the exact same settings. When game development got bigger and more expansive, Game Freak never changed their methodology of game design and that's why we're here. They kept doing the exact same shit for over 20 years, and while maybe it worked back in the 2000s, the higher expectations of the industry and community hurts the games themselves. I don't think Tajiri or even Masuda expected these games to be big pseudo-MMOs with all these insane multiplayer features like Raids or exploring each other's 3D open worlds on a big HD console. They made Dragon Quest-lites

pretty much i think the whole Nintendo department hates Gamefreak cause they have to struggle to find new ways to be creative and appealing to sell their games while GF can just shit out whatever slop they please and still end up on the top of the food chain
