RS, DP and XY have actual villains with actual motivations that make at least some sense, even if they're very shallow
But they make sense for the type of characters they depict, PLUS they make the box legendaries a very relevant and sensible part of the plot

Rose is presented as a friendly character, although sometimes oddly incompetent, which seems more endearing than anything the way it's framed
But then he just all of a fucking decides that he can't wait ONE FUCKING DAY for something that won't be a problem for ONE THOUSAND YEARS even though Leon fucking promises him to help ASAP
He's not evil, he's not even shown as impatient, he's just pants on head retarded, just completely fucking stupid

If it wasn't for Emerald, Sword and Shield would be my favorite in the series. Training Pokemon was pretty much perfected and it felt like a very good progression system/gameplay loop. In Scarlet they went too far for QoL with Bottle Caps while also regressing by not letting me training ~120 Pokemon passively to level 100 due to not having a replacement for PokeJobs. Also no PokeRus makes EV training by hand tedious again and the conversion rate from HOME points to vitamin items is fucking dogshit. I used PokeJobs so much that I have about 400-500 level 100 Pokemon in HOME, just waiting for when they finally release Champions. Collecting and customizing Trainer Cards was fun and if you play with a lot of people it acts as a great memento of your battles, sometimes I still boot up the game and take a look at those cards. The raids were fine when they were supported and the Battle Competitions were great. In Scarlet and Violet's lifetime, we have had exactly one Battle Competition that was interesting, the rest were just regional dexes or the current VGC meta. It also ran much worse than Sword and Shield up until recently. I finally went back and completed the regional dexes for Scarlet and Violet with the launch of the Switch 2, but I'm a bit upset that in order to basically have some semblance of post-game, I have to make up rules unlike Endless Dynamax Adventures, Restricted Sparring, or even any version of the Battle Tower.

RS is just the beta test for the modern Pokemon formula because they threw away all the shit they were cooking initially for the game, which was an even closer retread of Gen I than what we ended up getting. DP is a fleshed out version but they were clearly more obsessed with fleshing out the lore than the actual story. Platinum patches a lot of DP's holes, specifically with Cyrus. Yes, but in his defence, they have capital A autism, as in, he'll never be able to work or live independently. His mum says the game calms him down more than anything else they've tried. He's showed me his teams before, he always uses Wooloo, doesn't evolve it. I'd suggest Palworld for a similar mon but the presence of guns would freak him out.

I actually feel quite sad thinking about him, his parents fairly old and when they're gone, he'll be off to a what's essentially a convalescent's home due to the amount of care required to keep him going.

The biggest common thread I've seen among swooshie defenders, outside massive mindless shit eaters like mistah merriku, is that they're people who hadn't played Pokemon for years and years, and decided to pick it back up because "first console mainline game" and/or because rona buff for the Switch so why not pick it up it's been years since I last played Pokemon should be a good time wasted while trapped at home.
They simply don't know, have no idea, cannot understand or comprehend how bad swooshie is plain and simply because they've not played the good games.
