Not a fan of all the shilling that occurred gen 6+ (or I guess gen5 if we're counting the anime), but it's really fun to use in Fire Red. Great offense, speed, and easy to find teammates that synergize with it. Plus connecting it's Side B in Smash is incredibly satisfying.

CharY was very enjoyable to run in early gen 6 doubles before Pokemon Bank.
It was still good after transfer mons, but a scarfed lando was an eternal threat.
Gen 3, I think his only niche was belly drum. After that it wasn't useful and even solar power didn't save it in gen5's weather heavy meta.
