PLA is the most boring slop ever and didn't expand on anything from Sinnoh. This is just a response to BDSP, if you got a fresh innovating game created by gamefreak along with a crappy outsourced remaster full of bugs and a weird chibi artstyle no one was expecting, of course people are going to pick the game made by gamefreak.
If BDSP had been well made with gen8 graphics, enhanced world map and game story, like the previous 3 remakes, then it would be different.

Given how ORAS couldn't even include some things from base RS there's enough to form a pattern in people's mind regardless of that fact that BDSP isn't really GF's fault (at best you could say it's exactly Masuda). This isn't even getting into Let's Go which is in a weird middle ground between the two concepts and is also fairly divisive. Even then if we only take in Game Freak's current output and ORAS, I'd pick the borderline experimental title even if I fucking hate it because there's a chance that it would have an idea that I like over them making BW but worse in every single way and also not fixing any of the actual problems with it. Not even sure what they'd do after that, aside from new graphics Gen 6 onward play basically exactly like the modern games on a base mechanical level, with Gen 6 only not having EXP scaling for whatever reason.
