Not too fond of any of the games post-Unova but Gen 7 did have the best "vibes", perhaps out of the high of Pokemon's 20th anniversary + GO. Summer 2016 was just wholesale kino.

But I gotta admit, the vibe and characters were great.
Mellow and Chicken are the best gen 7 characters.
