First of all, has anyone played it?
I played the first one, and the main characters, the extras, the plot—everything is boring. I would have skipped it if at least the city was as charismatic as Zootopia or futuristic, something fantasy or science fiction-esque, but it's the most generic thing possible. It's like one of those educational games but with a Pokemon sticker.

Remember the "early childhood" rating? It's pretty much that. It's a stillborn franchise that feels like a late 90s school friendly point and click game.

The story is absolutely abysmal. It's ridiculous and has no depth.
The puzzles are all really easy, yet there's so much fucking text that kids wouldn't stand to read through all that shit.
The presentation is awful, very amateurish use of the camera and such.
It's like they didn't know who to pander to. The silliness of the story and the low difficulty for the puzzles would have you think it's for children, but there's so much useless text and character drama that only an adult would care about. So now it's a shitty game that doesn't appeal to either of those groups.
If you're still doubting, put "detective pikachu mac n cheese ptsd" in the YouTube search bar and see for yourself.

I watched a Let's Play of it and I could barely stay awake because the game had too much padding and the writing makes everyone seem like complete idiots. I've played the 3DS Detective Pikachu and I thought it was fine for the genre and target demographic.
One of the worst Pokémon games, but it's not all negatives. Its few moments of absurdity such as the divorce mac and cheese are entertaining and it has a good soundtrack.
