because gamefreak hit a certain point in development where they had to stop trying and cut corners, which is why the last five gyms take about as long as the first three, there are all the locations that seem like they really should be in the game but aren't, and the story is half-assed despite the epic scale that gets set up. likely because they're utterly incompetent at 3D and it took them way longer than planned

You guys are missing the real reason why they flop. It has nothing to do with the designs or the way they wrote the characters. BW were just flops they're the lowest selling mainline games by a good margin.

X/Y was in dev at the same time as an initiative where GF were trying to make games that weren't Pokemon. It took a lot of money/people/resources away from X/Y and didn't pan out anyway.
