I've been playing Pokémon Scarlet for the first time on the Nintendo Switch 2. I've read endless posts online about how the game's performance issues on the original Nintendo Switch significantly hampered the game, but, playing it on the Switch 2, I'm finding it to be one of my favorite Pokémon games by a decent margin.

To what extent was the original middling critical reception of Scarlet/Violet an artifact of the performance problems? If the game had always performed as it does on the Nintendo Switch 2, do you believe it'd be regarded as one of the best games in the series?

It's pretty easily the best 3D-era game, it's pretty easy to see it being highly beloved by normalfags if it wasn't for the technical issues

It's still a 4/10 game, the performance was the just the cherry on top

I have no stakes in this and haven't even played SV but can you fuckers be more specific than "it's still bad"?

I read nothing about the game before playing, as I usually do, and my first playthrough was the most fun I've had playing pokemon in a long time, good story, good characters, and fun to just go wherever I wanted. I only noticed the occasional framerate issues and of course the graphics kind of sucked but nothing egregious and nothing I wouldn't expect from Pokemon.
But I haven't been able to complete a second go around of the game. It's still not the performance issues that bother me, it's just the world feels so empty and boring. First go around even if it the world was bare bones at least it was new, but when it wasn't new it was just became ugly and bland.
I also enjoyed the DLC. Anyway, to me it was a great game with shit replayability, I still have it as one of the best in the series.

I like it but I hope the next time they try to do this structure they implement level scaling on your objectives, or at least have it so they increment in difficulty depending on what you've already cleared off the map.

Yeah, my point isn't that people can't disagree on the fundamentals beyond performance but rather that it seems like the performance was a "but for this, I'd get into the game" issue for a lot of people that preempted them really interacting with the game at all.

It had a HUGE impact on the reception. It was THE most criticized point in most reviews.
You have the understand that the performance was truly abysmal - a barely functional game. The majority of players experienced multiple crashes. Some areas are so laggy that you can barely pilot your character through them.
It's straight up embarrassing they dared to ship the game in this state. GF absolutely deserved getting shamed for it.

I wouldn't say it wouldn't be regarded as the best, but definitely a lot better. It still has other pretty grating problems - mostly the graphics being ugly no matter what, and the fact that the open world format is not executed that well.

I really liked SV as well, even though I played it on Switch. But the performance and graphics are truly unforgivably bad. They should not have released it like this.

Feature and size wise, it's the best. Flying is really fucking cool, especially when you drop down a big mountain. Game play wise? Too easy, too dull. Fuckable character designs I guess, but that's every pokemon game, so.

It was my favorite since the transition to 3D despite the bad performance. It's probaby an outright good game with the upgrades. I think the worst part of the hate surrounding the games had to be the lies about the graphical bugs. Evee notice how the shit like the bulging eyes and stretched models only have the singular sources, yet everyone pretended like they were common occurrences?

It's my favorite game in the franchise, previously long held by HGSS then PLA (which I thought couldn't be topped until playing Scarlet). The sense of exploration, the multi-faceted storytelling, and the memorable characters made it amazing. I played it in a vacuum for 3 days when it came out and when I went to discuss it after finishing I was shocked and disheartened at the large negative reaction. Like yeah I get that there was some graphical stuttering but I didn't run into any glitches. SwSh and PLA already had stuttering so it never bothered me. I still stand by it being the best, especially after the DLC made it even better.

A lot of the online hate was just bandwagoning. People just saw 1 or 2 video of the game glitching out and then comment "wow this game is shit lol" everyone for easy ragebait and upvotes. Youtubers did the same for the same reason, it was easy engagement farming.

The performance was an excuse. Normalfags won't admit but even they are getting sick of the shit gamefreak puts out. They're just infected with toxic positivity so they can't ever critic anything, especially a big franchise, without people getting annoyed with them for giving "bad vibes" or whatever. "Performance issues" was a convienient scapegoat to pass on the new game without having to organize and explain your greivances to your buddy only for him to dismiss them for brand loyalty.

If it ran ok people would have played it out of obligation, said it was fine, and then dropped it after a month and never play it again. Same as what happened with sword/shield.
