My friends hyped this series up and it got me into retro handhelds/jumping into this trilogy, I know nothing about more known romhacks, I thought playing through all 3 was nice, being able to get all the Pokemon inside one game was nice etc

Then researching other romhacks its just standard for every single romhack since 2006?????????

I downloaded like 20 more but haven't gotten around to playing them yet, open to suggestions, I mostly want 'catch everything inside one game' and most boss/gyms/trainers being a bit smarter' without being kaizo levels

The legacy series touted that the AI was better but then my 10hp pikachu would be able to thunderbolt down the gym leaders ace while their ace refuses to actually attack and just spams agility or growl

Romhacks made with decent levels of public exposure are not being made for people to enjoy playing them anymore, they're made for streamers or YouTubers to play so people can mindlessly watch "CAN I BEAT THE HARDEST ROMHACK EVER?!" instead of watching another solo unevolved mon challenge where they make obviously bad plays to simulate tension in a children's game.

The hack was made to address shit that barely anybody cared about prior.
Is it weird that the villainous teams use the bog standard zubat/regional early game mammal/token non standard mon format despite their land/sea theming? yeah, but it's coming off the back of two gens of rocket being just that, it's trying to match that previous consistency, not like it matters when you end up oneshotting all the mook mons anyway'
is it nice to see more variety? sure, but you end up seeing the majority of the hoenndex by the end of the vanilla game anyway and what you don't is just a good excuse to encourage exploration and non standard encounter methods

This. Johto tried the same thing but didn't do so well, they really nailed it in Hoenn, though. What boggles my mind is how they then immediately fuck it up in Sinnoh and never really improved from there.

I more meant the new additions, should have been clearer. The Legendaries, they are the postgame treat, so they can be left out just fine, but most of the cross gen evos should have been more visible and less of a chore to obtain.
