Maybe this is a hot take but I want gen 10 to be like the Ashime, just without Ash. I miss the goofiness, the focus on the Pokémon league, and the higher abundance of training and battle focused episodes. There's a reason why Horizons arc 3 was so beloved, it's nearly exactly what I want.

Genuinely this become a non-issue if you stop viewing Pokemon Horizons like its set in the Ashime's world. Ash is a special case, his struggle to even get to facing and subsequent victories against champion level trainers is entirely artificial. The league conferences that filtered him every time don't exist in the games. Your average MC in Pokemon clear the league in what, a month or so if even that and the player beats Nemona in every encounter with her. Roy beating Nemona's Pawmot after a year of training is genuinely more reasonable than Ash having to go 8 regions and getting what is effectively a pity title from a junior league so they could justify him beating literally the strongest trainer in the world.

To Be A Pokemon Master was definitely disappointing in terms of animation, but it still had a lot of in-house animators working on it, with Iwane and Oshida providing lots of animation themselves. The OLM compositing still looked bad at the time, but that's not really what I'm talking about.

Horizons, for the past nine or ten months... hasn't really been moving. Character movements are extremely sluggish, stuff that should be fun, like Nemona chasing Ult around, looks shockingly amateur and lifeless. Battles are as choppy as the games, lol. I guess it's just weird because I was under the impression that Horizons was actually a ratings success, relatively speaking, so it's weird that they've pulled all the talent away from it for almost a full year.

Also, I'll push back a little on 'since 2019', since pre-covid PM2019 was blessed to get cool freelancer cuts in almost every single episode, even if the median episode quality was just so-so.

Some of the cuts done in America were excellent, but I suppose those are the works of specifically talented people rather than independent studios.

I love Cap, he's a cool dude. But it's so weird when I realise we're never going to see the first Pikachu ever again, he was there for years and he's just gone. Honestly surprised they didn't just give Liko Fennekin/Delphox since they seem to be fine with the Psychic type overlap between Armarouge and the Hatterene line. Delphox will allegedly get a Mega Evolution too, so that would kill two birds with one stone.

I still prefer Frosslass for her though.
