Feraligatr is good because of sheer force.
Blastoise finally got shell smash and I hope against hope it's mega becomes water steel as it should have been from the beginning.
And finally after years of abuse Meganium gets tonlearn leech seed without breeding.

All of them have improved, feraligatr glow up is the best though since it doesn't really force you into a set and it's pure upside.

Mainly the design. Rillaboom is cool on his own: a monster gorilla.
But many hate him because it was forced to be a jobmon by adding a drum to his design. If I wanted to make a rhythm gorilla, I would've made him with a hand slapper and chest beater motiff. Or give him maracas instead.
Or pull a Donkey Kong, and make him a dancing gorilla.

There were lots of picks, but they chose to give him a drum and say "he is a drummer. Clap, you tool."

What people don't know is that Meganium is actually the strongest Johto starter in GSC, you just need to know how to use it.
People just think it's worse than the other two because it isn't braindead easy to use, and because Johto's gyms tend to have a type advantage against grass.
This even applies to competitive in gen 2, but it got left behind as generations passed.
If you look beyond Meganium's level-up moveset and use all the resources given to you it's actually easy mode.
Feraligatr takes its place in HGSS though

Maybe I'm biased, but Rillaboom really looks good in that set. Both Primarina and Skeledirge, without their "bipedal" pose, have that wild touch and don't look like obvious jobmons like they did with Galar. Perhaps it is because unlike Intelleon and Cinderace, which only look like Pokemon wearing clothes, they have a very marked element, Primarina having a marine anatomy and Skeledirge with flames coming out of its body.

They really do look like pocket monsters.
