It's a lot like the difference between OoT being held together by ducktape where it's basically fine unless you crouch stab or do some satanic pact, vs Gen 1 where the game just doesn't fucking work right but you don't realize because there's zero fucking documentation on what everything is supposed to do and also sometimes the game just fucking lies because it also assumes everything is fine. I'm reminded of people who just fucking dodge the fact that they're unlikable pieces of shit by pointing out something relatively minor somebody else did (usually when said person is doing some minor relative).
Worst part is, the worst example in your image, DP, had a remake that also had some of the exact same fucking glitches as the original Japanese release, so the Switch managed to have intentionally shitty design and glitches, but given how DP was I'm kind of repeating myself.

I think Galar is more insulting because it represents Britain fine visually and thematically, but the story is so fucking bad that it shits all over that. Having to associate with that is embarrassing, and nothing can fix that or remove the association. They'll never get proper representation now, they're stuck with Galar forever.

Paldea has the opposite issue, it barely represents Iberia visually, only in some pretty subtle ways. It would've been nicer if it did a better job at it, the region could use a bit more personality outside of its pretty decent story.
I did like how it vaguely alludes to the Age of Discovery, which Spain and Portugal were true pioneers in. But, again, it's all just a bit too subtle (the compass, the whole Area Zero discovery shit, the Treasures of Ruins being from Pokéchina etc.)

I mostly agree with you but as a spanish I see both regions and my issue is that I think with Galar Gamefreak/The Pokemon Company at least TRIED to capture the identity of United Kingdom with tons of references to both popular culture depictions of UK and more deep cut references.
With Paldea it feels more like a placeholder region with some refernces to Spain throun in it at last minute like food and some architecture. For example it has only two regional variant lines, one is too obscure and the other is too in the nose. There are also several mon ideas that clearly reference other countries and where thrown in Paldea because they don't want to make a region based on said countries (like two of the starters being a reference to dia de los muertos and brazilian dancers).
For last, in Galar at least the DLC were loosely based on parts of the UK (isle of man and scotland). In Paldea they surely wanted to leave Spain as soon as possible because we had a Japanese town and an american academy.
I might be nitpicking, as the games had good aspects, but Paldea was very promissing yet so dissapointing in many aspects. As bad as Galar was, at least it had fucking clothing options.

I'm sure the reason why Galar captures the essence of the UK so well is solely because of James Turner. He was the art director and is British. So they just had someone on the team who had the perfect knowledge on how to give Galar so much personality.
They clearly did not have anyone like that for Paldea.

And yeah, I really expected something based on the Canary Islands for the DLC and was straight-up confused when I saw the direction they actually took. Just bizarre.
It's ironic because a lot of people cry about Europe based regions and how they should go back to Japan again when SV somehow was one of the most Japanese games to date. It romanticizes school (something only Japan does) and the DLC is about modern problems of rural Japan and an extremely Japanese fairytale.

In my opinion, they should ready look for places out of these two. You don't even need third world countries (that would likely never get represented if the "new regions are based on the developers vacation destinations" theory is true), just look in north america or oceania.
If they couldn't go for east asia for political reasons, a good alternative could head south for SEA. They don't seem as fucked up as Africa or the middle east, these countries are more mixed about japanese legacy and Mario Kart already did a track based on Bangkok.

Emerald is close, but it's also not very graphically impressive. Plus, the story is extremely basic, but this goes for all other games too.
