Berries have flavor descriptions and an easy to follow system between color and primary flavor and each series of berries also follow of pattern of flavor intensity.
>red berries are spicy
>blue berries are dry (astringent)
>pink berries are sweet
>green berries are bitter
>yellow berries are sour
At least for the first 30 berries. After that, it all falls apart with stuff like a sour blue berry that isn't dry at all and a mystery berry that used to have every flavor and was a mystery to now being spicy and not so much a mystery anymore.

I've seen a few recipes online over the years for poffins, basically they all boil down to bread/muffins with fruit preserves and different spices for flavor, color, and texture. Never saw any for pokeblocks but I always imagined they'd be some sort of molded candy like pez (the case does look like a pez dispenser) or taffy given their bright colors and uniform cube shape - you basically put the berries in a mixer and the machine pops it out fully formed without having to do anything else. I'd love an official pokemon cook book that could answer these questions definitively.

If you want to battle or trade (could swap rare berries with people via held items) it's not that hard to set up. Google around for an active dns server, connect your phone to wifi, turn on the hotspot with wep or no security, connect your ds to the hotspot with the dns server settings. Done. Unfortunately for the underground and poffin baking you'd need to play on an emulator that will also emulate local connections over the internet, have not dug into doing that myself.

no idea about poffin making (doesnt that shit need like 4 actual people to make *good* ones?), but you can definitely do underground stuff and trades using 2 instances of melonds on a pc. I’ve seen people trade with their phones and ds too but I’ve never tried it
