Guns are canon in the pokemon universe. How come Jesse and James don't just use guns to steal pokemon instead of Wile E Coyote tier traps?

They'd mistakenly shoot their own invention every single time.

Do you think if you use a gun to shoot a Pokemon to weaken it as part of its capture that it'll still bond with you and respect you? I feel like the idea of ownership and obedience can quickly get sickening as you introduce more adult elements, which is why Pokemon has to stay kid/family-friendly. They try to have more mature stories and themes sometimes but they can't go too into it, hence having to go copout with the cartoonishly evil Ghetsis character in BW.

Steel, Ghost, Rock and maybe Dragon would be pretty much inmune to bullets.

Flying types too fast for the average joe with a gun

Bug, Grass and Poison types could theoretically deal with the gunman without him noticing too

Mons end up sustaining far worse injuries than mere gunshots in regular battles, and they just walk it off fine
And besides there's already enough bullet-like moves for there to be a category recognized by game mechanics, so the only real difference would be whether it's a device (usually) held by a human that launches the projectile, or a pokemon launching the projectile

Also if you actually played the games, you'd know that having a pokemon of your own attack the wild mon you want to capture is **NOT** a strictly required part of the capture process
