Team Thread
I remembered to continue my SoulSilver game after a while but I can't quite finish deciding on a team.
I have everything up to Azumarill, WIP still a Marill, but I can't decide what else to pick up past Jynx. I'm considering Ninetales because I've never used it on a playthrough but that would be a second bulky special support mon. Maybe Magmar? I've never used it before either.
Remembering that you don't get the tutors until after the league threw a wrench on my original plan of having an elemental punches Ursaring.

ninetales is cute and you should use one for that very reason
also pretty fast for a "bulky special support mon" at 100 base speed, and it has some nice coverage

The issue is that it will have to stay a Vulpix for a while and Morty already gave me trouble.
I can always use Golem for Jasmine and Scyther/Meganium for Chuck but I don't know how well Vulpix can do with Pryce. Or would that be a job for Azumarill?

Also, I just found out that you can just snag a Clefairy from the Safari Zone at night.

Blame Battle Factory Meganium being one of the most reliable picks.

i can't recommend magmar enough, it was an indespensible part of my recent run. every member of the team pulled weight but magmar especially carried me out of some tough spots. still sitting on the post-game but i imagine it'll keep up the heat.

people always mistake meganium being outclassed competitively for meganium being a bad pokémon when it really isn't, it has rock solid bulk all around, status spreading, recovery, and dual screens. it can be a really valuable team member.

What does it do?
Anonymous No.57973494 [Report]
>>57973198
tons, on my team it sponges physical hits after a granbull intimidate and spreads burn with flame body, it sets sun for a meganium switch in or to run away with lava plume sweeps which honestly it can do without sun if it needs to, and it can even learn psychic if you can get ahold of the TM which filled a huge gap in my team.

Going to tackle omega ruby's elite 4 with this team soon.
Absol with super luck and high affection is 100% crit rate on night slash and psycho cut
Blaziken is my starter, and blaze kick and night slash also have 100% crit rate with focus energy
Zangoose is a toxic boost facade engine
Gardevoir is just a great special attacker
Milotic is a toxic stall with confusion on top via water pulse
Muk is for water, flying, electric and fairy coverage with a special attack build rather than leaning into into its higher physical attack base stat

Cool team. No items? Why no Scald or Surf on Milo? Low Sweep, Brick Break, or HJK instead of Double Kick on Blaziken would be worth considering.

>No items?
zangoose: silk scarf
absol: black glasses
gardevoir: odd incence
milotic: leftovers
muk: expert belt
blaziken I haven't decided

>Why no Scald or Surf on Milo?
water pulse for the chance of causing confusion. toxic competes against scald for status effect. I like the idea of aqua ring + left overs for passive heal and then recover for a big heal if needed while toxic does its work
>Low Sweep, Brick Break, or HJK instead of Double Kick on Blaziken
I like that double kick breaks sturdy since it's a two-hit move and I really don't like the risk of self damage on high jump kick

Typhlosion and Feraligatr are easily replaced. Meganium is the best grass type in the game, especially in gen 2 where the chlorophyll mons don't get a power level boost after obtaining sunny day late in the game.

>>57971803 (OP)
I like it!
I dunno if Ninetales is really necessary though, your team already covers every fire type advantage.
You can probably just pick up something else like a Gengar or a Magneton, maybe get the Ursaring anyway, Slash + Rest and Snore isn't bad at all.

thanks,. zangoose and absol are my 2 favourite mons so I've always wanted to bring them ot the final team.
>though is that Zangoose really that effective without Toxic Orb?
can't acquire a toxic orb in ORAS until the battle mansion which is not only post elite 4 but post delta episode, sadly. I was planning on pre-setting poison before going into the elite 4. If not that then sydney's shapedo has poison fang and 1 of phoebes banettes has toxic.

I didn't mention it, it somehow slipped my mind, but I wanted to try having a balanced team of special and physical attackers but I'm not sure if I actually need more special attackers than Jynx and Meganium.

I actually caught it cause I needed a Strength user that didn't overlap any types with the mons I already wanted to use, it's not like you're spoiled for choice in Sinnoh.

Another Crystal Legacy run. Having half my team with a base speed of only 30 was interesting.

Quagsire had it's Special stats buffed by 10 and learns Bubblebeam and Magnitude early on. In Legacy, you fight a ton of Quagsires, especially in the post game. The buff along with Amnesia makes it survive at least one more turn than you're used to seeing, even with grass moves.

Fearow's unchanged afaik. Unlike in Yellow Legacy, it doesn't learn Sharpen.

Sudowoodo got +10 in HP and +20 in Special Defense. Since dark moves are physical now, Faint Attack is much more useful.

Ninetales got +5 in HP, Defense, and Special Attack. It learns Flame Wheel and Shadow Ball by level up.

Sunflora got +20 in Special Attack. Frankly, I would've preferred the +20 to go to Defense.

Hypno is basically unchanged. It doesn't even get Psybeam. On the plus side, it keeps all three elemental punches. Alakazam and Gengar only have Thunder Punch now for balance.

But your levels are much higher (low 50s compared to mid 40s), you have better moves thanks to the move tutors (Sneasel had to chain breed with Nat Dex pokemon for ice punch in DP), and you have a much better Pokemon to choose from (Gliscor for example solos the first 3 E4s and most of Cynthia's team). DP E4's challenge stems from how weak your team is.

Top is my most recent team, poison-only in diamond. Not pictured: HM slave chimchar. I thought giving Barry an empoleon would make it harder but honestly it didn't end up mattering at all.
Bottom is me planning a fighting-only run in Black2. I'm thinking about using some legendaries, because something like virizon would give me some type variety, but on the other hand using legendaries is lame as fuck.
