The state with all the big theme parks full of international tourists wouldn't appeal to people around the world? Granted, they couldn't use the real parks without Disney and Universal in particular calling their lawyers. Although aren't they building a Nintendo/Mario world? They could probably work something out to add a pokemon section that matches the in-game version and have pokemon equivalents of the rest. It would fit their game design so well, a theme park for every type or groups of types for the larger ones would make their habit of cramming every biome into every region so there's a suitable habitat for every type of pokemon actually feel right. Link them all together with swampland because it's full of alligators, industrial highways like Unova has, beaches because there's lots of coast and people go to the beach for vacation, and then the typical forests, large grassy fields, rivers, and ocean.

That would have worked better in modern times, making the region gigantic with each Gym representing a part of American culture: a 1950s-inspired city filled with greasers and roller skaters girls, a swampy southeastern area where you can only navigate with aquatic Pokémon, a city surrounded by oil fields and ranchs, a northwest coast with Native American villages and cryptids, and more.

On the other hand, Unova feels incomplete. Perhaps they had plans to continue with other states, but after the poor reception of BW, GF focused more on Europe. Hawaii was a miracle thanks to the fact that a lot of Japanese have relatives there and rich Japanese decided to use it as a retirement place.

Even then, although the region are inspired by their real life counterparts, they are still their own thing, so its more like some alternative world that just happens to use real world Japan as its base.

Minnesota is cool but not very interesting overall. Highest point is 2000 ft, lowest is the Great Lakes. Lots of water areas and snows heavy in the winter. Lots of trees and flat land depending on where you are. Cities are okay except the Twin Cities metro which are some of the most disgusting cities in the region. The small cities and towns is where the real beauty is.

Florida is good since it is like a Pokemon region. It has a east coast, west coast, and south coast. You have flat land everywhere, but also deceptive natural mazes in the swamps. It has standard beaches and even Caribbean style beaches in the Key West region. North Florida has hills and dense forests. But two things that Florida lacks is mountains and snow regions which one anon said might not fly.

Texas is perfect as it has everything from mountains to warm water beaches, forests, deserts, grass lands, and it snows. The cities are pretty famous or infamous depending on how you see their history.

Colorado is cool but no sea. Louisiana is just small Florida. Good states would be California, New York, Alaska (no hot desert, but does have ice deserts), Montana (no ocean), Virginia, North Carolina, Maine (no desert), Oregon, Washington, New England states.

Nevada as whole is kind of interesting. Vegas is an entertainment zone and the Reno area the same but the rest of Nevada is like a reverse sea. You have a sea of desert but you have mountains which have forests and cities in them. Nevada can get a lot of rain and lakes can form. Then there is the heavy snow the north half of the state gets. If Pokemon were in Nevada, time mechanics would be dominant.
