>water is weak to electric because water is a good conductor of electricity
>for some reason this same logic doesn't make steel weak to electric

Pure water is actually a shit conductor. It’s the impurities in water that make it conductive. however regardless of the purity electricity splits water into it basic elements, so I like to think that’s the actual logic being its super effectiveness despite that probability not being the intention. It would also explain why electricity is strong against flying: air does not conduct electric well but electricity does turn air into plasma. It’s not about conducting it’s about transformation/controlling.
I’m oversimplifying the science abit and it bit like I’m a physicist or anything but that’s what make the most sense to me.

What is the tcg steel type symbol supposed to be?
Ever since i was a kid I recognized it as steel but I never quite understood why aside from knowing the pokemon it was on was steel type
Most modern things give it like, a gear or a nut or something but after getting into the tcg proper these past year I've been wondering about this specifically

It was actually planned to be weak to Electric according to the Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo. There, Steel, then called Metal, had a completely different type matchup.
>Only Rock was weak to Metal moves
>Water and Electric resist Metal moves and are super effective against Metal
>Metal resists Rock, Fighting, and Poison
>Metal is immune to Metal moves
I assume this was changed for type balance. All the new Metal Pokémon were dual-types with another type that's also weak to either Water or Electric.

That's not true, Scizor and foretress

Scizor was Bug/Flying in the Spaceworld '97 demo and Forretress didn't exist at the time.

Electric is strong against Water because aquatic creatures get harmed or even outright killed when electricity conducts through their pools. Metals on the other hand conduct electricity harmlessly most of the time hence why many electronics use metallic components. For anything steel types should actually resist electric.

When you add lightning + water, everything touching the water dies

When you add lightning + metal, the metal is just as likely to act as a faraday cage that PROTECTS you from the lightning, depending on how it's set up. The metal COULD cause the electricity to flow directly into your body if it's set up a certain way so that there's nowhere for the electricity to go but to pass directly through you. But it's also perfectly likely the electricity will go into the metal, and then filter directly into the ground. The metal shell of cars and airplanes is why you're safe from lightning while inside them

Go back to school

I once saw someone try to describe it as an abstraction of a screw from above

Nintendo usually use tri-point screws in their hardware too, could also be a reference to that (three pointed slot for a screwdriver).
