It's a nice sentiment but it wouldn't really fit when every name is English now, would be weird to just randomly have two Japanese-sounding names for the player characters.
Only tangentially related but I've always wondered about the decision to rename Green to Blue.
Obviously it's the default top name in the Red version of the game, but I doubt very many people were going around actually calling the characters Red and Blue before GSC canonized that, and the localizer had to deliberately change Green to Blue of his own will in GSC.
