Gen 6&7 feels like it was only a few years ago, and in a way even Gen 5 feels moderately recent. I have /vp/ related memories of release hype and corocoro leaks from those gens, and /vp/ trademons from over 10 years ago that all feel like 5-7 years at best.

XY era pre-transporter and pre-datamined/injecting was a magical time, when we were all grinding away at our national dexes to see the new 3D models for the first time (I still treasure my XY all-pentagon-mark living dex), and wondering what other secrets were hidden in the game (power plant, etc). Then when injecting became possible, it was only accessible to very few people for a good while (SciresM), and we were excited to see what those guys were finding (shiny Gen 6 mythicals, special moves, etc). Then all the theorizing about Z before GF cucked us (still sad).

Can't help but already feel nostalgia for fucking XY, something I never imagined. I add it up to the the huge graphical jump, and being the first time a game was not hackable immediately on release to reveal everything, are what made the era feel special in hindsight. It all just doesn't feel like it was that long ago.

Gen 4 and earlier feel like forever ago, but they sure don't feel quite as old as they really are. I can remember the Gen 4 games all coming out and regularly watching pre-release info show up on Serebii. I have super vivid memories of Giratina origin form and the distortion world being revealed.

Time really does speed up as you age, sucks being an oldfag (almost 31). Killing myself.

21 year old here, and.. yeah, it really did have something special, didn't it? X&Y's reveal to release was some of the most excited I've ever been for a pokemon game, just being beat out by sun and moon, just watching the countdowns for both was amazing. I was about 8-9 when it came out, and even still, it feels weird. my nephew is the same age I was when it came out. nowadays really does just not have the same feel, with there being no real hypebuilding, just.. leak spam.
..although, anon, if it makes you feel any better, even the young ones like me who were around your age when XY came out get bittersweet for nostalgia. if there's anything I could really say though, it's that these things still do exist. you very easily can go back to where you came from, go back to the older games and things that you adored, and they'll always be there.
trust me, anon, you're doing great, I promise.
