Interesting, to me anyway, thing that I’ve noticed and am wondering if anyone has any insight or opinion on the matter
Does anyone else just feel different when playing on Cart vs Emulator?
I’ve been doing a lot of Gen 3 Battle Frontier on Cart after getting all gold symbols, lots of breeding and streaks, and it’s super fun
But I’ve also been doing a ton of x10 speed emulation of Battle Factory
Both are enjoyable but the cartridge just feels better, there’s just something it
Is it from physically holding the gameboy SP, similar to how reading a book irl differs from an ebook? Is it from the game being slower so you have more time in between turns to think and process information?
I mean it, is it just me being dumb or is there an actual difference in gaming experience

I play emulators for replays and rom hacks. I use console when I do ‘long term’ content like the Frontiers and their other counterparts.

I think so too.
Couldn't stand Platinum on emulator but playing it on 3DS really made me appreciate it a lot more.
I think there's a certain charm to it right, like the whole conceit of the game is that you literally have monsters in your pocket, but the game itself also fits in your pocket.
Gives it a lot of charm.

Visuals are a big part of it. Handheld games were designed for their specific screens and that gets lost when it's emulated on a modern screen with upscaling and different colors. It's hard to emulate in the original screen size as well, which makes the picture even worse and forces filters.

I also find playing on real hardware makes it much easier to isolate from distractions you'd get playing on something else, allowing you to just get comfy and more immersed in playing.

If you play on an emulator, you didn't really beat the game.

Played all the games on official hardware, multiple times for the good ones. I've moved on now just romhacks and the like but had to get one of those emulator consoles as I hate playing on laptops/phones.

After going through enough times speed up really enhances the enjoyment as well.

Flashcarts have a tendency to lag/stutter somewhat if youre using that to emulate. But >>57975396 is also right.

i play gba games on a flashcart with real hardware
playing this way feels more freeing and enjoyable
when real cartridges cost £100+ it starts to feel like a luxury collectors item that you have to be overly cautious with using

Emulator if you're poor, cartridge if you're retarded.

I'm funding an expensive modded console purchase by selling my DS game carts and accessories. I don't regret it one bit. I heard HG/SS in particular with an untouched pokewalker is worth a lot of coins. TWLmenu plays these games better enough.

Even the best computers can't emulate R/S/E/FR/LG's 60fps as well, consistently, and faitfhfully as the GBA/DS. That's why I play every game apart from R/S/E/FR/LG on emulators.

i was trying to do a ribbon run starting from sapphire but i realized by the time i actually got near finished bank would be shut down on top of being another like 700 dollar investment on handhelds i no longer had and their games
it's kindof a mixed bag for me, i acknowledge emulator speedups ruin the feel but at the same time i work 10 hours a day 5 days a week and CANNOT be fucked to do shit like grind for ivs/evs anymore

outside of pokemon though there are a lot of games where i feel like i can't enjoy it without a larger screen though. the hardware doesnt matter but having the original controller/screen really impacts the feel of a game for me

oh there's also certain romhacks that CAN be played on original hardware like unbound. i really wanted to play unbound without speedups so i could hear the music and whatnot but
>the music is dogshit
>default speed is 3x slower than normal pokemon
>emulator speedup crunches audio

objectively and factually incorrect, even a Raspberry Pi can emulate the 60FPS properly without lag, stutters, or artifacts. Are you using some ancient unsupported emulator or (((Retroarch))) core? mGBA is flawless even on potato hardware these days.
