Gen 1: good region, balance decisions are certainly choices of all time
Gen 2: best sprites/breeding/items, weak Dex
Gen 3: Abilities/Natures, the water routes
Gen 4: Online, slow
Gen 5: having only new mons/amount of interconnected mechanics, Plasma
Gen 6: PSS/global release, start of the games feeling empty in terms of meaningful content
Gen 7: best cast/world building, game could cutdown on the interruptions
Gen 8: QoL for things like move reminder, raids are cancer
Gen 9: legendary being with you from the start is cool, open world exploration is so empty and boring

Yeah I like how much of his outlook and behavior is based on Leon. I really like the infamous lines about super effective moves because of that implying he studies Leon so much. I know people don’t like friendly rivals but I like that he’s generally in high spirits but is willing to get serious or fight if he needs to. His theme is really underrated too.

1.) Its archaic elements make it probably the most fun Pokémon game to play in a vacuum. It was definitely the first main campaign I was capable of enjoying after my childhood. It can be a pretty dry experience if you can't get in the right headspace though.
2.) Ideal and fun postgame, in my humble opinion. The Pokémon and battles themselves are a bit lacking.
3.) The designs are arguably the best in the entire series. Really wish the game gave you surf earlier, the earlygame is a bit of a slog.
4.) Grew up in the Midwest so I've always loved games with marshes, farmland, aggressive snowstorms, etc. Very comfy region. The quality between Pokémon you find can be a bit annoying, most of the good ones are either immediately available or show up at some time at or after the second gym.
5.) The story is really interesting, and I really wish it could've been fleshed out more, though that probably would've threatened the age rating. Would've been a lot more engaging if the region itself wasn't a chore to walk/battle through.
6.) Megas were really cool and you could tell they at least tried to give it an interesting and emotional maingame story. Everything else about the game feels really goofy though, the design and decisions about all the characters, Pokémon and areas started getting really bizarre in this gen and it'll always be off-putting to me.
7.) Poképelago was interesting and I at least appreciate the attempt to switch things up with the evil team dynamic. By far my least favorite creative decisions in the entire series, whether it be the story, the Pokémon designs, the level designs, etc.
8.) This might sound inherently negative (hopefully it can count for both), but I really enjoy playing this game ironically. The cracks, limitations and generally bizarre decisions they made for this game, which would normally be annoying, just makes the experience for the game that much funnier. If this were a parody of a Pokémon game, I'd give it a 9/10.

9.) An open-world Pokémon game definitely felt like a breath of fresh air, plus I really liked the (effective) redesigns of various Pokémon. I got sick of the novelty after a dozen or so hours though, so I never got around to finishing it and have only watched other people finish it.
