Have you ever missed on a main Pokémon release since you became a fan of the franchise?
How/Why?
Personally, I started during gen 2. I missed on:

Because my parents wouldn't buy me it no matter how much I asked. Not even on my birthday or Christmas. Then I just moved on when Emerald and Gen 4 released.
>White 2 and Black 2
Back then I was in the middle of my "I don't play baby games anymore" phase and also starting to become chronically online, so I ate up the shitting on Gen 5 because it was "trying to replace old Pokémon" mentality that was plaguing the internet back then.
I actually ended up buying White 2 a couple of years ago and can say it's on of the best games in the franchise after HGSS.

Yeah, skipped the entirety of Gen 3 as it wasn't financially intelligent to buy what was essentially a portable SNES, when PS2 games were more expensive and I only had the cash-flow to support one games system. Returned with Gen 4 after my life situation had changed for the better (finished college and had no more related expenses to fork out for).

started with gen 1 at age 10.

the first generation i skipped was gen 5 because i saw the dex online and thought it looked shit.

got back into the series for gen 6, got nostalgia baited by X&Y and wanted to play ORAS too -
got round to retroactively playing gen 5 and liked it.

stopped again with bdslop's trailer. immense disappointment

haven't played any of the subsequent titles since then and have no desire too seeing the absolute state of them

Not skipped entirely, no. When BW2 came out, I had more important things to spend my money on at a time where money in the house was already tight. When things improved, XY were about to come out, then ORAS did. I didn't end up getting BW2 until 2015.

I "grew out" of Pokemon when gen 3 was coming out, so I got Sapphire but Not FRLG or Emerald. Now as an adult I feel kinda mad about what I had missed out on.

Why did I grow out of it? Because Yugioh was popular and peer pressure made me worry about being seen as weird for still liking Pokemon. I denied myself of the thing that makes me the happiest for a good decade or more before coming back. I got back in because ORAS came out and bought Alpha Sapphire out of pure curiosity.

God I wish I had come back in at the beginning of X and Y. The anime was in my opinion fucking amazing and while I think I'd agree with most of the criticisms of the games I see on here, I still wish I had bought a copy of X and Y and Omega Ruby when they were dirt cheap clearance items.

Everything that came after Mega Evolution sounds kind of dumb to me so I wish I had a complete set of the gen 6 games so that I could have completed a whole pokedex for real at least once.

Thank god for romhacks that let you catch them all in one game.

Crystal and all of Gen III while still going back to Blue version and doing glitches/gameshark codes. Just that phase of life.

I skipped BDSP and Let's GO, I borrowed them a long time after.

Dexit knocked me down to Pokecasual so skipped Sword and only played it while visiting family who bought it, I bought PLA because single player only without Gamefreak's usual bullshit, skipped BDSP entirely, didn't buy Violet until I got a Switch 2 and stopped after story.

I have ZA pre-ordered digitally because want to use Switch 2.

I was cautious at first if I was going to like it, but after seeing how the game was well received even here, I got it a few weeks later.

I haven't bought a game in the series since gen 4 and when gen 5 came around it was around the time I got into SMT which did turn based combat more to my liking. I tried to get back into the games here and there but the drive was never there. I might get Z-A since Legends didn't do it for me due to it taking place in the past but liking it for being real time instead of turn based.

Many things made me hate them since the reveal.

For those reasons I decided to wait until the game leaked to make my final decision. When it came out that it was just as shit as SM, with no postgame, I decided not to buy them.
Even now, I think I only ever played them one (emulated) and stopped right at the beginning of the second island due to how frustrating it was to be stopped for a pointless cutscene without stop.

I stopped buying Pokémon games after Sun and Moon. My Moon experience was fun, but I felt it was lacking compared to X and Y, and Galar looked like an even further downgrade. And Paldia looks like absolute shit. he remakes of Diamond and Pearl looked somehow inferior to the games they were trying to remake, and also, why not base the remakes on Platinum? Pokémon Legends looked like a gamecube game at the best of times.

Skipped BW because I was a broke college kid, skipped ORAS because Emerald is still better and skipped SM because XY was bad and SM looked bad. I only got UltraSun because I got it new super cheap.

I liked Ultra Moon. I don't have the interest to play the new games, but I enjoy watching others in their moments of triumph and defeat. A shame /vp/ can't be much better, there's really nothing else remotely like older "Pokemon-focused" /vp/ on the internet today.

Like I said, I pretty much missed out on it. I got to watching the XY anime a few years after I got Alpha Sapphire and when I finished it, I wished I had watched it while it was airing so I could talk about it with other people that were into it.
