Some anon proposed the idea of starting a succession game here where participating anons take turns playing an agreed upon game before handing the savefile to the next one, so I'lm putting that idea in the OP in case something ever happens.

Damn, a shame I couldn't post more Vega stuff before the previous thread died...

Wfter dealing with the Gym, i went into the Spirit Mansion (basically Pokémon Mansion but way earlier) in Seafin City after fighting the rival, which was a total pushover, only having 2 mons, got a letter and continued south... only to find some water route that i can't traverse yet.
with no clue as to what to do next, i wandered for a bit (also a nice excuse to restock items and level up the rest of the team)
then realized that the letter i got earlier advances the plot (I had to give it to a scientist inside the museum in Seafin City), that's on my honestly.
Also found this thing, which had Wonder Guard and used Perish Song/Explosion on Nidorino. Poor thing.

it probably has a pseudo legendary catch rate or something... (i caught it later, nice)

And so we reached a new city: Gamboge City.
there's a gym, a lab, that berry powder geezer from FRLG for some reason... and a skateboard shop (this game's bike equivalent. It's one of the few games where it breaks the tradition along with Unbound, and i guess XY/USUM) Obviously, i went straight into the shop only to deal with a hide-and-seek quest to get the board (find 4 Hidden NPCs)
3/4 NPCs were on Gamboge City, and the last one was on Seafin City
(pretty clever).

There seems to be a Team DH invasion, and yes, using X items seems to be their whole deal (neat, i guess, but that mostly ends up giving me a free turn. It will probably be really deadly late-game)
fought a few grunts, and fought against DH admin Reginald, an effeminate man (despite that, the sprite seems pretty Lance-like to me) and oh boy this fucker ramped up the difficulty with a Gen 5 Skarmory (it can resist Dark/Ghost moves) + X item usage.
Suffice to say that i lost the fight. My whole team has a pretty bad match up against Steel/Flying types, and the lack of Electric/Fire type moves is really noticeable at this point

That's pretty much it, rn I'm trying to level up some mons but the wild mons are pretty lacking in terms of Exp... Damn, this is rough.
That fucking Skarmory has pretty much perfect coverage in Drill Run/Magnet Bomb and an unique move called Shadow Clamp which seems to inflict either Confusion or Sleep if it hits AND there's also a Haunter with Hypnosis, Calm Mind, Dream Eater and Shadow Ball. Truly evil.
the Gym is also avaliable but it certainly isn't better... it's a Water type gym and the very first mon is a Starmie running Ice Beam and a move called Aqua Volt which i imagine is a Thunderbolt-like
The daycare is avaliable... maybe I should abuse that to passively level up some weaker mons (there are no Level Caps or stuff like that and there isn't any avaliable documentation for this specific version)

So after beating the Gym I can finally use Surf!
Went into a cave oddly filled with water types instead of the usual Zubats and Geodudes and fought the Ranger Rival and some weird dude called Mosmero (or just The Mos). Nothing too difficult. After the fight I got the VS Seeker so I guess I can properly grind some trainers

And so we arrive at a new location: Shamouti Island.
Has a Casino, Department Store, More DH grunts... and no Gym unfortunately.
In any case I obtained the Coin Case and the Good Rod (probably missed the Old Rod)

There's a DH base here so I did that and as expected it's full of grunts and those movement tiles found commonly on Team Rocket hideouts and such... a bit lengthy since aside from the usual Grunt spam I had to backtrack through the building to get 4 Shards hidden on the floor to access the last floor.
Fought Reginald yet again (wasn't too difficult since his team remained mostly unchanged) and got Rock Smash (which is totally useless without the badge which is located on the other side of the map)

After backtracking all the way back to Gamboge City, I took another route and reached Nephrite City, a place full of Pokémon Rangers.
It has a Safari and a Normal type Gym which is blocked until you obtain a package from the Safari.

The gym is now open and I must say that I'm underleveled for this (the gym's ace mon is like level 35 while my best mon is level 30)

I'm getting walled by Roxies seviper in blaze black 2 so hard. Everything i have either dies in one hit or doesn't hit it hard enough sending it into infinite rest/shed skin loops.

Did a bit of grinding and evolved both Blazerai and Frozaiden before the Gym.
Despite being a Normal type Gym it certainly had a lot of coverage and that Stupid Porygon-Z forced me to use the Wonder Guard mon (which I'm banning right now, it's too powerful. A shame since it evolved and has a pretty cool final evo)

Also, i forgot to mention that I can use Rock Smash now.
And I guess that's pretty much all for today... I'm going to sleep. I should grind the team to level 35 or so before the next Gym, it's time to reach those final evos

Rock Smash let's me backtrack to Porcelia Town but this is certainly not the way (all avaliable paths require Cut instead) got a "Fang" Fossil and Sandile evolved.
I'm pretty much just wandering aimlessly and getting a few items

Finally figured out what to do: I forgot about getting Strength... I must say the backtracking in this game is a bit odd (plus the fact that crucial HMs are seemingly handed to you by random NPCs)

Orpimence City: it has a Radio station, a gym and a Graveyard-like area called "Tower of Darkness" which seems to be filled with Team DH grunts (yep, again)
Before that, we had a (worryingly easy) fight against the rival... and rn about to enter the Tower of Darkness

Tower of Darkness: Done
The water Starter finally evolved (know it's Water/Poison) and got the Cut HM.
Time for a Gym battle and make it double!
Yep, a Double Gym (Flying and Grass) so I pretty much have the type advantage.
Nothing particularly difficult honestly...

After getting Cut I backtracked (yet again) through Porcelia Forest/Town, got a Lucky Egg, evolved the Krook and realized that this is not the correct path (there were 2 paths blocked by trees, took the wrong one, also Cupricorn became the HM slave since it's worthless in battle)

After quite a few trainer battles, getting Fly from a random scientist and a bit of level up we reached Ravenplume City
There's a Gym here thankfully: a Ghost type Gym
Krookodile clears 90% of the gym without a sweat with Aurostice (Ice Gardevoir) as backup for those weird Fighting/Ghost and Dark/Ghost mons (the existence of Fairy type certainly helped here)

I kinda want a Skarmory and maybe an Electric type for the final team... the problem is that Skarmory (along with other mons like Absol) are 1% on the Safari so wish me luck there.
Since unfortunately Cupricorn will never be useful in battle and the last slot was occupied by a Ponyta but Psiquic mon which has some janky stuff regarding learnsets I opted to box both (well, Cupricorn is still the de facto HM slave so...)

Before the Chateau of Time there's the Rival (Max) with a more competent albeit still weak team. After the fight we can enter the building proper.
A few Grunts and wild Ghost types later we found out that Team DH can control Dialga and Palkia and some random Grunt with a slightly above average IQ decided to summon Steven and Wallace from the past to fight us

Apparently these Steven and Wallace are evil versions from Altair/Sirius which I haven't played but whatever.
In any other game you would expect some crazy 12v6 with these 2 using the Sinnoh dragons competently but nope, they only use Dialga and Palkia which is kinda sad but understandable.
After that we are free to go to the next City (I should evolve Skarmory ASAP)

Not much happened, apparently there's only 2 locations (and therefore 2 gyms) avaliable: the New Island which seems to have Mewtwo as a Gym leader and Lapizula City... The problem is that I need Waterfall (i don't have the HM nor the badge to use it) to reach New Island and Lapizula City seems to be blocked by random scientists... guess I'll need to check a guide.

It's a slowboard and also new threads can always be made once we hit image limit. Some advice on what you should screenshot, from someone who's been here since this pretty much became a general in spring 2022:

After rescuing some random NPC, Rival Max dropped a pretty cryptic hint: basically I had to backtrack to Orpimence City, get to a hidden section of the Broadcasting Station and get a Meteor to get those scientist out of the way.
From then I can finally reach Lapizula City which, as expected, as a Psyquic type Gym which mixes Strength Boulder Puzzles, Sliding puzzles and Teleport tiles oddly enough

Damn, this kinda sucks.
You have to time the slide and move as soon as possible since the boulders don't stop your momentum for some reason (also the boulders reset if they get off screen so there's also that)

What can I say? Dark types >>> Psyquic types, Krookodile destroyed the gym (and it got way stronger than i intended since the gym is around level 42 while Krook was hitting level 50 for some reason)
We can now use Waterfall (but I don't have the HM...)
There's a Team DH building here so maybe it's there

From there I went to Ice island, found Articuno but i didn't bothered fighting it since i didn't have enough Ultra balls, and finally reached the last Gym located in New Island

Yep, the final Gym leader: Fuckin' Mewtwo. And damn, Mewtwo got hands lol
Its team is mostly made of the clone mons from the first movie (Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, light orb Pikachu and a Scyther) boasting pretty much perfect coverage and I imagine better stats than the vanilla counterparts (for example Venusaur can use hydropump and Scyther has Brave Bird)
There's a somewhat big level disparity which I should deal with (most of my team is level 42 while Mewtwo's team is level 52)

Who knows, maybe it was planned as a Steel type by whoever programmed the hack but the artist just said "whoops, I made the mon a Dark/Poison/Ghost type, sorry" or something like that and they just rolled with it.
It could be a bit more obvious in terms of design, it looks pretty hairy/ethereal rather than metallic like other Steel types do (with Mons like Lucario or Mawile being somewhat an exception)

where the top of the list is your playthrough's best mons that have always been worth a teamslot, and the bottom of the list is jobbers that you consciously wish you weren't using

there's more mons from Procyon/Deneb/Vanilla mons but I got lazy, i might make a proper tier list once i beat the champion/tackle the post-game

The Jobbermons are really bad... they are pretty average in terms of stats/coverage, can't defend themselves and evolve stupidly late with little benefit (Fuck you, Cupricorn and Psycolt)

Banned mons have Wonder Guard.

Early mons where useful up to a point but they either evolve late (either by level up or using Moon/Sun stones which are rare in this game) or don't learn anything useful past level 20

Rn the Water Starter is pretty mid and underleveled, a slow Water/Poison is kinda bad when everything has some form of coverage, I know it's meant to be a physical wall but the Fire starter has better stats if you want a defensive mon

Honorable mentions are just that: Nemea is somewhat strong and I recently caught the small Dino thing (which either evolves into a Rampardos like mon or a frankly brutal Steel/Fighting with 125 Atk and 100 Speed with Hustle and Hone Claws)

The Aurostice line is pretty solid albeit a bit "one note" only using Draining Kiss and Icy Wind (not Ice Beam since it's a Pre-evo/TM move, you know, 3rd Gen jank) until I burnt a few TMs for coverage (namely Aqua Volt and Psyquic)

Top mons should be self explanatory: Fast, strong and with lots of coverage.
Infermoto (Basically Fire Gallade) Krook and Airmale are pretty strong

Nothing much to say, the mons have some good coverage but they don't seem to have min maxed stats.

Krook can take out most of his team except for 1 mon with a Focus Band that activated TWICE and that was enough to kill Krook, Airmale and Infermoto.
Despite that, I won the fight but the Champion swept me soon after that, so I did the fight again and reached the champ with the whole team.

At first I thought "MAYBE grinding the team to level 50 was a bit overkill..." since the E4 had roughly the same level... Man I was so wrong, her team suddenly jumps from level 55 to level 70.
The first time against her i got swept by her Aerodactyl, there was literally no counter play, forcing me to re-do the Cole fight to even stand a chance. Every team member fought back until only the starter remained against her Nostratos (the Pseudo legendary of this game which is basically Fug-lite) abusing a move called "Typhoon", a 120 BP Flying which does damage and has 70% chance to do each of the following:
>Sharply raise the user's Defense.
>Harshly lower the user's Sp. Atk.
>Raise the user's Sp. Def.
>Lower the user's Speed.
>Harshly lower the user's accuracy
The Accuracy and Sp.Atk drop (and a random Hyper potion) were key in letting Correncid win the fight.
After a long struggle filled with Full Restore Spam, we won.

And that's it, that's the end of Pokémon Vega's main game...
The game is fun, it has the charm of FRLG but unfortunately it also has most of it's flaws (no Reusable TMs, no Gen 5 Repels or other additions from later entries)
It's different than the average Radical Red, Run n Bun or similar hacks, it tries to be a sincere (albeit slightly harder) Pokémon experience
There's some rumors about how Sirius/Altair, Vega and Procyon/Deneb were made by Ex-GF staff which I don't belive that much if I'm being honest, might be the differences in design philosophy from western and JP developers

Guess I'll decide if I should tackle the post game or play other game like idk Rejuv/bioterror maybe

Kinda works like a Raid battle with multiple HP bars, getting buffs as you deplete them... the good news is that status and debuffs don't disappear between phases so Paralysis early on and getting this bitch to -6 accuracy + a Harden Shellos made the fight trivial (albeit a bit longer than it should be)

After dealing with that, we are granted anything we wish for. I, of course, want to get the fuck out of here so to do that I have to battle Maid Cerina.
It's basically a Mono-Dark team using Phosmanyte (a pure dark variant/regional/convergent whatever the fuck it is of Omanyte) which has an ability that gives -1 to both Atk and Sp.Atk on entry and also has Parting Shot (oh fuck, it's a Stall mon)
Fortunately I caught a (lonely) Falinks with Defiant which pretty much cucks her team.
And with that we can finally leave this place, and also choose a new appearance thanks to totally safe magic stuff

After getting out of that (unpaid) hellscape, i finally catched my first glimpse of civilization: Lithi City.
It has a museum which doubles down as a Gym (finally!). I hurried to beat whoever was running the gym only for the guards to tell me that it's off limits (for now). So I took a small look at the craftsmanship, only to get jumpscared by a really old IGN meme... Really?
Naturally I continued south only to find 2 trainers about to fight Team Sodium (a Terrorist group which, based on the dialog, really likes blowing up kids into pieces). One of the Grunts had a FEAR Rattata which... c'mon, what's this, 2007?
After clapping that Grunt, there was yet another battle: a Raid Boss Beedrill with a Black Sludge and a Weather condition that buffs Bug types (both offensively and defensively).
Again, status conditions are (mostly) usefull here. I used soak to turn it into a Water type to negate its healing and so the starter could spam SE moves + Paralysis against it, not too bad.
Now, due to "plot" this Beedrill is invincible oh no... then the last pick happened (Metal Gear Solid Alert [!] sfx and the OG audio from Hokuto no Ken included)

Damn, I think we have struck gold with this game...

So that sounds about right, probably on the same range as Vega

We can't go into the gym yet until we deal with the source of that weird weather (known as silver powder).

Fought more grunts and more souped up mons (think Totem mons from 7th gen + the weather, making it a deadly combo)
And reached the source of all this disaster: a weird mix of Skarmory and Butterfree (apparently we can hear its voice or whatever, not that important)

It's yet another Raid Boss mon and this might be the worst so far... for starters, it starts as a Bug/Steel mon with Weak Armor + the weather that buffs Bug types, on the second phase it turns into Bug/Psyquic with Psyquic Surge, sets Reflect and heals its status ailments (but not stat changes) so the main strategy was to (yet again) change it into water type via Soak and reduce its accuracy as much as possible to survive, on the last phase it gets weaker and it's pretty much trying to farm pity points because it's weak now.

I should have picked a fire starter...since there's NOT a single fire type in this shit (I also forgot to mention that I was given a choice between Tepig, Turtwig and Totodile before leaving the starting area, I picked Turwig)

Also the Fakemon water starter seems to be cursed with a terminal case of "late game evolution" because it's already at the level cap (level 20) and hasn't evolved a single time

Aside from not giving me a single fire type, there doesn't seem to be any good Flying resistant/Electric mons, the gym literally tells you to go fuck around on the next town for an electric type (I'm assuming it will be something like Pikachu or some Flying weak fuck like Pawmi)

I wandered for a bit, reached the town where I could caught a Pikachu for the Gym, evolved Turtwig, and fought the gym leader which had a flying Smeargle with Moody.
Still that wasn't enough to stop me, and we got the first badge (yay)

And so chapter 2 starts... on my way to Neon City (where the next gym is located) we encounter some blonde rich boy getting assaulted by merchants to buy shit, so he ask us to tag along because he can't say "no" to some randoms
On my way there the map suddenly breaks into a glitch mess for seemingly no reason (unless this is slight evidence of my character being inside a matrix like scenario)
We escape glitch city, only to find a waste land with another Raid Boss mon

After dealing with the Raid Donphan, we go through a mirror and end up in some ancient Regi Themed ruins, only to fight a Dragon/Ground Raid fakemon that sets itself on fire and like a hallway and puzzle later another Raid mon but Dragon/flying... and later there's a 2v2 against both (at least i can control my partner and thankfully his team doesn't sucks and is properly equipped to deal with this double battle)

After beating those 2 dragons, Aron (the rich blonde dude I mentioned earlier) cries because he couldn't catch either of the Dragons (huge dragon fan, probably autistic) to the point he compares the experience to losing a Shiny... you ok man?
After that battle and a puzzle later I got the "Titan Core" which, based on some ancient text, it will empower the fakemon starters, and it does just what it says... dunno how powerful it is but it did shit against Regigas, also explains why the fucker didn't evolve after 25 levels (pretty dumb tho, who tf designs a starter without evolutions? Might be worse if this thing has actual stage 1 mon BST)
Anyways, another Raid battle, this time against Regigigas, but not any regular Gigas... this one cycles between the other 5 Regis types per phase (Rock > Ice > Steel > Electric > Dragon) changing the weather and his ability too (sets Sandstorm, dunno what ability it has so probably Solid Rock > Ice body + Hail > Mirror Armor > Electric Surge > a new Dragon type field)
Thankfully it's a 2v1 again, so it wasn't too hard... and after defeating the titan we can get out of this cave

A mono-dragon team with a glaring weakness against Ice (found a water stone earlier so Cloyster was avaliable)
Before doing the fight tho, I teleported back via this game's fast travel system to Lithi City and bought a Jolly mint and Ability Capsule.
Pretty easy fight thanks to the power of 252 Atk Jolly Cloyster with Skill Link.

With the fight done we can get out of this cave and back to Neon City... I algo got a "Coin" which allowed me level mons to level 30 (so yeah, a totally legal, League approved Gym badge, it even shows like one on the trainer card)

As soon as we enter Neon City, chapter 3 begins... there's a Pokémon breeder trainer which had 2 Audinos with memento, also gives exp candies post battle (I don't remember if there where more breeders in the previous locations but it's not that big of a deal)

Since BioTerror is nearing its end, I might as well pick the next game: Infinite Fusion.

anyways what advice I can give
catch fucking everything, just to be safe. in the immediate term, go grab the nidoran-m (savescum until it gets sucker punch) and fletchlings (plural, for cheesing things)
keep backup saves (especially before any sections where you're forced to play as someone else in some retarded cutscene with extra steps) just to be safe
and most critically, enable debug mode via appending " debug", space included, to the end of the file path in the shortcut you start the game with. it'll let you skip tons of grinding/IV RNG

using the debug menu > variables, you can rig mystery eggs to give a specific mon via variables that are otherwise not save scummable and are really not balanced with what's mutually exclusive with them.
variable 0228 controls the route 3 mystery egg, which has a few mons of note

variable 0776 controls the aevian form mystery egg in kakori help center that you get for completing all its sidequests. i'm not too familiar with the aevian forms it gives because that'd require me to have a reason to replay it myself to try them out, but aevian larvesta is ONLY obtainable via this mystery egg if the mystery egg variable is set to 5.
it is obtainable nowhere else so you either debug variable ID 0776's value to 5, or you miss out on a very strong mon you'd otherwise only have a 1/8 chance per save to get it. just debug in the other regional forms (budew, wimpod, shroomish, bronzor, feebas, and sigilyph) with their forms set to 1 if you want to use those when you get access to the mystery egg instead of who the hell knows when, while also being able to get the otherwise unobtainable aevian larvesta. trust me when i say you'll need it

Should also mention that I felt that way a lot when some fights were so cancer that trying to find a legitimate solution wouldn't be worth the satisfaction gained, and some were especially bad that even cheating past them wouldn't provide sufficient "fuck you" catharsis
Oh yeah speaking of blatant cheating, did I mention that for some particularly rigged fights, even injecting uber legendaries with hackmon movesets like it's going out of style isn't gonna be sufficient?

But yeah even in my one and only v13.5 playthrough, I generally attempted to play the game legitimately as much as possible (barring debugging mystery eggs for dual volcaronas and giving the fire volcarona icy wind because trying to find hidden power ice needed for the ground "gym" in the debug menu among like 19+ moves all labeled the same was gonna be too time consuming in an already very long game, and backtracking to the 2 npcs that can change hidden power types was blocked)

anyways here's the general team I was using for act 2 when pretending that I was still doing a legitimate challenge, barring miscellaneous fire or flying types I had in the box for specific fights/fields

Should also mention that every other mon in that gym had ice coverage and/or was faster than mons like my Emolga (which was generally part of my party's rotation a lot act 1 due to being a desperately needed electric type)
Which brings me to another bit of advice/another warning that explains that "90% of the game's difficulty comes from fields in some way" complaint
Expect 90% of the gyms to just be some field that buffs the type in question a lot while nerfing its counters (or even types weak to it) in varying and sometimes crippling ways, with a team built to fully abuse everything about it
And often the field will be either unchangeable, only changeable into a field that the opposing team also benefits from, or changeable for half a turn before the gym's signature move just changes it back to fuck you over

alright it sounds like i've been rambling a lot but for good reason
also these warnings are still shorter than most of the game's chapters, or at least it'll probably feel that way because essentials textboxes don't have room for a lot of text and Reborn's the only exception that tries to work around that via its dynamic textbox sizing - refer to the monoground LP in the archive rentry for an example

With that we can explore for a bit; there's a random NPC which offers you a free ride to Hoenn. This is obviously an early bad end choice like idk Mogeko Castle because you decided to not engage with the plot... (it would have been funnier if the devs actually committed to the joke by letting the player explore Hoenn for like 30 minutes, I guess that's too much effort for a joke ending)

Ignoring the temptation, we go and pick a starter. Initially I was indecisive about what I wanted so I picked a random one via the random machine in the same room... first attempt was a Grookey which I don't feel like using honestly... attempt 2 was the one: /vp/'s favorite (Crippled) Sword-wielding starter so I'm rolling with that. (This might be the worst choice long term since Grookey has Grassy Surge and Torchic is not avaliable unless picked as a starter)

We follow Veronica through the sewers, get more stuff, battle more NPCs and fight against a "Ruthless" Garbodor (which is another Raid mon) it goes down pretty easily... I also realized that I can't control my partner and apparently there's not a single password for that (I learned from my mistakes in Reborn and activated QoL and Mintyfresh passwords at the start of the game)

After the fight we can go to Veronica's Gym (Poison type) and rn figuring out the puzzle...

Damn I forgot about the fact that every Gym leader in Reborn-likes use 6 mons from the start... also the field (Concert Venue Field) feels a BIT overtuned for a first gym fight, it also sucks that all the field notes are literally outside of the game
