Unironically, yes.
You know how alcohol and cigarettes require you to be a certain age to buy/consume them?
Well it should be the opposite for children’s media. Anyone 18 or over must be accompanied by a minor in order to buy trading cards, kids games, kids consoles, kids toys, etc.
This would help the scalper problem and also the arrested development problem.

You're ignoring the power dynamics. Age limit for alcohol works because a minor is unlikely to force an adult to buy for them. A reverse age limit would lead to scalpers taking their children to stores and using (and abusing) them to buy.

The only real way to stop scalpers is by increasing supply and fucking their business

I thought this was about scalpers. Those people at the store might've been cringy but they didn't do anything wrong so nothing should be done about them. TCGs as a concept aren't that friendly to children as people think anyways.

>>57981638

Speculators are a part of TCG's business model. TPC has no interest in stopping them and they don't get backlash for not doing so either.

No. Adult hobbyists and collectors have more money to spend on things, so if you've somehow managed to luck in to a large and dedicated adult fanbase, you should do everything you possibly can to appeal to them. Nobody is obligated to make things fun and welcoming for your children, no company is obligated to turn customers away so your children can spend their paltry allowance instead.

No, but you should be limited to one of each box/tin/pack per day. If you are buying one for each of your several children, you can bring them in and they can each pick one out. There's no reason why someone needs to walk out with a cart filled with cards.

That's fine, but if you're opening like 10 tins, they should lock you in a room and force you to open all of your packs there in the store. Obviously, you could still sell these cards, but at the very least you wouldn't be hoarding whole boxes.

I am aware that this is an incredibly schizophrenic idea with no basis in reality.

My local game stores have dedicated events for children, with entry packs and additional prizing. That alone solves both the "associating with adults" and "can't find any packs for my kids" problems. I'm sure if he spent as much time looking for a solution as he did writing that post he would've found something similar —if it's even a real story. It feels like right-wing engagement bait, they love to bitch about the dumbest shit.

The solution is digital card games. Can't be scalped. My nephews/nieces play TCG Pocket and enjoy that, and I sometimes battle/trade with them. It's better if the kids play that anyway since it's far less clutter and wasted money if it winds up just being a fad for them that they move on from, especially since real cards can be damaged since they're, you know, kids.

No, but the statement is pretty clear. Because scalpers are ensuring TPC profits immensely due to literally every single goddamned physical pack of cards being sold, guaranteed, they have no incentive to stop scalpers.
This is another part of why TCG Pocket exists. So that if overseas fans want to engage with the trading card game, they can play and hopefully spend money on TCG Pocket, which literally can't be scalped.

Anyone who mentions things like height and IQ in a bio - things you have no control over and didn't achieve - is, without exception, an unhappy and unpleasant man. His self-confidence and his general opinion of himself is incredibly weak and brittle, and if he doesn't regularly put other people down for real or imagined flaws, he turns his bitterness inward and spirals into depression. He can never relax or show any signs of vulnerability, because if he does he becomes a loser and must be despised, under his own warped criteria.

I remember being a kid in the 00's and going to a game store to buy Yugioh cards. It had some adults but everyone was pretty chill and polite. They'd invite you to join their events or just ask if you like the anime etc you know normal adult-kid interactions.
I think the bigger issue is nerds these days have become bitter assholes that look down on kids for enjoying a kids hobby. Ever since the brony craze dudes in childrens hobbies have become insufferable. It's like they're bitter at normies for looking down on them over their childish hobby and then force that bitterness onto the children in that same hobby for not receiving the same ridicule from normies. Dudes need to go to therapy.

You have it backwards. CCGs aren't hobbies for kids, they're hobbies for nerds. Just like Napoleonic wargaming or trainspotting or collecting anime figurines in huge glass cabinets. Card games are (generally) family-friendly, don't require any significant intelligence or dexterity, and have historically had a low barrier to entry, which means they've been very accessible for children. That doesn't mean they're childish in and of themselves. Playing football is just as accessible and popular with kids, but nobody thinks it's childish to be interested in football as an adult.

I didn't say it was manly, I said it was not a hobby under threat of being (rightfully) overtaken by children.
I play the piano. Not particularly manly but definitely under bigger threat of AI replacement than of a fucking child's.
Pokémon cards are MEANT for kids. Your argument that "adults have been a part of the hobby for decades" only serves to show that adults have been wrong for decades, nothing more.

I played the piano as a child. Lots of children play the piano. Music in general is perhaps even more accessible to children than card games. That doesn't mean it's a childish hobby. You've decided, apropos of nothing, that certain things are for children and adults should have nothing to do with them - any argument you make in support of that position can just as easily be applied to playing the piano.

Normal people have never been to 4chan because they (rightfully) think it's full of maladjusted weirdos, but here you are arguing in a Pokemon thread. The biggest losers here aren't embarrassed at all, because even they don't care about the opinions of losers on 4chan.

It is kind of staggering how there is no place on earth fit for tweenage kids anymore. Every thing that exists is either adult oriented or it's some revival of zoomennial slop that's reoriented towards people who grew up with it. Even last week I saw the headline "Chuck E Cheese is coming back but now for adults" like there aren't already 4 different variants of the manchild arcade with le ebic IPA beers on tap. Genuinely, outside of just rotting indoors where can kids aged 11-16 go for fun?

And with that, he completely misses the point. The normal adult fans that buy the cards for their enjoyment are not the ones depleting the stock or creating a dangerous environment yet because he's such a seething trad cuck, of course projects the grievances he has at childless nerds onto scalpers who ironically enough, only see Pokémon as an investment.

And that bit about his kids learning some dark lesson that day is nothing more than those old MY SON LOOKED AT ME AND ASKED DADDY IS DEMOCRACY DEAD Twitter posts. No shit any kid is going to be upset and scared at seeing grown men throw hands but it's not going to affect their love for Pokémon cards and it only seems that way due to the fact that because everything is a big deal to a child, anything unfortunate that would have happened on that day would have put a dark cloud over what was supposed to be a fun occasion. They'd feel the same way over some other kid bullying them for playing with baby toys.

Children don't play Pokémon TCG. They play brainrot games and watch brainrot videos on YouTube designed for their ADHD brains. And even if they did grow interested in the game, their parents wouldn't be arsed to drive them to a convention or anything like that. The world where kids would collect trading cards and play with each other is dead. They're too stupid and stimulation-hungry to be interested in these, and, more importantly, it's more convenient for their parents if their pasttimes involve staying locked inside all day staring at a screen. That way they don't have to do any work supervising their children or taking them to places.

Protect your kids then. Teach them about how capitalism works and the insidious nature of gacha games, and tell them they aren't allowed to have any Pokemon cards. That's your job and yours alone, nobody else has a responsibility to protect your kids. As for everyone else, it's not your place (or anyone's place) to say what people should and shouldn't buy.

This is implying the scalpers have any interest in Pokemon as a franchise, of which they virtually have none. The adults who've been into the TCG have always been on the fringes and this new, sudden wave of adults swarming stores for packs and boxes of Pokemon cards can barely name at least ten Pokemon but continue buying up a huge chunk of stock from big box stores to flip on Facebook Marketplace for 100x MSRP to make a quick buck on the actual fans and parents buying cards for their kids. None of this would be happening without TikTok or Logan Paul existing.

I hate this black and white(tm) mindset. Assuming this guys story is true, which it probably isn't since it looks more like AI generated engagement bait, adults aren't the issue. I'm an adult into pokemon. I hoped back in at Battle styles and since then I would buy one of every product. One Booster Box, One ETB, one of everything that had a promo in it. That was really it. It's not people like me causing the shortage. It's the adults going overboard buying 3+ ETBs, multiple Booster boxes, entire rows of triple blisters/single blisters from their local stores, using bots to scoop up everything online in a matter of seconds. i.e. the scalpers and investorbros. It's them making it impossible for kids to get cards.
