>>57982788 (OP)>>57982803>>57982906The Japanese original is much more interesting, because it's about Mewtwo struggling with his inferiority complex and just being entirely consumed by hatred to such a degree that it twists everything for him.
He sees cooperation as weakness, similarities as points of contest and conflict, and power as a responsibility to control and dominate. He's essentially the opposite to every lesson the Pokemon anime wanted to teach, and for the English dub most of these ideas were greatly reduced or even cut out entirely and replaced with a more generic and incredibly-ironic-for-pokemon "violence is bad" message.
One of the most interesting parts is how Giovanni appeared at just the right time and did all the right things to make Mewtwo become such a messed up character. Giovanni wanted Mewtwo to be obedient and subservient, but only taught him how to dominate. Mewtwo took all the worst parts of Giovanni's personal philosophy and flipped them on him while pushing them to such a level that rather than rule the world he was first going to destroy it.
Anyway, here's Giovanni punching a chansey.
