Why do people say regionals "save" Pokemon? With megas I get it because those are fancy shill powerups that the the originals can use and save them from powercreep. and even with cross gen evos, despite being different Pokémon the original can become them so hey represent untapped potential the original had

for people who like the original, they don't need a regional form make them like the pokemon and any enjoyment they get out of the regional is more so because its connection to a pokemon thy already like rather than anything inherent about the regional

as for people who didn't care or even hated the original Pokémon, they'll just gravitate toward the regional form and shit on the original even more

Has there ever been a situation where you or anyone was like "this pokemon is sucks" then it got a regional and were like "forget this shiny new form, this pokemon i spent the last decade shitting on is cool now!"

Vulpix was a Pokemon I liked decently enough but after getting a regional I got attached to both due to their role in the anime. Overall I'd say I still prefer Alolan Vulpix more but for them that's like saying you like Minun more than Plusle. The differences are so minute that it just comes down to which color you like more

It's a double edged sword, sometimes they're good and sometimes they're shit. I really like Grimer and Muk, seeing them get some spotlight in gen 7 was great. I also really like Magneton a lot and never have liked Magnezone, Sandy Shocks should have been cool but looks stupid as fuck.
