The pokkén experiment lacked impact kid. 3 separate releases, 3 separate failures, the final one coming when Nintendo re-released it for Switch and it once again failed to find any playerbase between fighting game fags and pokémon fags, bar a million autistic fuckers before Smash came and got the normalfags playing a fighting game on Switch. They realised people only acre about Game Freak's pokémon battling, hence why they're F2P'ing the core battle engine while Game Freak monetise it for their own ends separately (connecting to Home to facilitate using your "own" pokémon in the app, ensuring Home sub revenue from the fags who'll REALLY get into the app).
