In fact, the megas that got revealed so far all look three steps down from the power level of pretty much any Tag Team card.

Why didn't you mention that booster packs now reflect their physical counterparts (10-11 cards instead of 5-6)? Needing to craft common/uncommon cards should happen less frequently. But they'll probably take away the chance for higher rarities appearing in the common/uncommon slots.

It's still stronger than archaludon on turns where you can't find black belt, and usually better than hop's zacian. A full poison package (mochi+stadium) pushes it to 330 damage for that variant but you probably put yourself into a terrible board state (3-prizer in the active, archaludon with no energy on the bench.

It's only an attempt to filter braindead decks. Almost everything has an answer to this card. Gardevoir and Raging Bolt have one prizers while Grimmsnarl and Dragapult can just take their final 3 prizes simultaneously. Only one dimensional trash like Gholdengo could possibly be effected.

Generally you want to play ethans typlosion by itself, to quickly discard all 4 ethans and use redeemable ticket to get any supporters that were prized
Macargo is kinda bad so that's irredeemable
Ho-oh is mainly used in it's own toolbox deck with armarogue instead of being played with ethans pokemon. (You'll see a lot of ho-oh toolbox in the BW expansion soon, it gets a lot of buffs there)

I double sleeved some cards with an inner/perfect fit and a Dragon Shield clear sleeve and they shuffle just well as having matte sleeves. It doesn't solve the problem with what we were trying to solve before which was protecting your waifu sleeves. It also introduces a new problem for people that might have smaller hands since those the deck is taller.

Never really played this game before but familiar with tcgs, got some questions.

My wife decided she wants to play the game. She wants a Gardavoir deck so thinking of buying her one of the league ex ones even if part of it rotated it's still a good start for her to learn with me right?

Need something for myself however I live in a country where buying singles is painful and the current premade decks don't appeal to me. Is there a decent way to get a bunch of basic energy and just start building a deck from boosters?

Alternatively, is there a good way to get a combo/control/mill deck rolling? I'm not overly sure that aggro/midrange in this sort of game will exactly scratch my tcg itch, but I want to play it if my wife is going to be playing it.

As for decks I only build stupid unga bunga ones since i'm still learning the ropes myself but I think the closest thing to a control deck is gardevoir currently
If you want to mill there's hydreigon and I fought a really funny arbok deck once. TCG Live has some free decks to start you off with and getting new cards is pretty generous if you do a bit of the battlepass every day so you can experiment digitally before committing to anything physically

the garde ex deck is still good. most of the cards you need are in the precon. there are a few $10-$15 cards you'll have to buy to make the deck competitive but you only need one of each.

trainer toolkits come with a bunch of common and useful trainer cards as well as a bunch of energy cards. if you have trouble buying singles then you can buy a couple of those.

for mill theres great tusk mill and wugtrio mill. combos decks aren't really a thing in pokemon because of the prize card mechanics and when they are a thing it's usually in the expanded format. for control theres pidgeot ex and spidops ex. keep in mind these decks aren't going to fit the archetypes that you're used to in other TCGs exactly 1 to 1 because of the mechanics and rules of pokemon. like control for the most part is retreat locking and milling cards.

you can look at all the decks used in tournaments and city leagues on limitless. other than the stadiums and thwackys the decks typically have a bunch of cards to increase dipplin's damage. If you like the deck I would suggest trying to fit in an air balloon or two when it's available because the deck's most obvious issue is losing to thwacky getting gusted and trapped.

Unfortunate. Do you have a local league being run at a nearby shop? The judges running them usually hold onto ETB energy packs or any extras people don't want to keep to pass onto new players. They'll also host pre-releases for each major set (not sure about this upcoming one), which will net you some packs at retail price and one out of three-four stamped promo holofoils that usually have something fun to build around. Additionally, they'll include things from the set to build around them with, and one or two of some common trainer staples like nest ball, professor's research, luminous energy and a nice fat chunk of basic energy for the pre-built's focus. They also include a draft format with what you pull, so it's good to look at the set's common/uncommons to maximize your shot at extra winner's packs if your local is doing that.
Additionally, leagues are usually run and attended by people who have extras of most meta decks then some, and will be willing to trade for an odd single or sell you something from their binder. (your LGS may be picky about player sales in-store, if so just do it outside lol)

Dragapult vs Gardevoir will give you both lots of decisions and keep the matchup interesting longer than most other meta decks, but control/mill isn't common in pokemon partly because it's unfun as shit for both sides of the table. Taking prizes is way too easy of a win-con for lots of mill to compete with, though there are options as mentioned by >>57998618 . You set up an annoying ability or two, try to abuse/reuse an annoying come-from-behind trainer like counter catcher or unfair stamp, and hope your opponent is too stupid to hold their resources and play passively or not overextend on their first turn.
Players with a brain will almost always be able to win or have an answer vs control/mill in this game. Just drop a Budew into whatever deck you're playing to scratch your control itch.

The main attacker is this, if you wanted to attack say a dreepy or budew, you'd have to discard 7 cards with this to do so, massively overkilling it or deleting your resources. Letting you choose what to discard is very dangerous, they rarely let you do that and if they do it's expensive to. Luxray being a 2 prizer that only discards 1 and even that saw a little bit of play.
It's because it can become very easy to completely lock your opponent from playing. And that's 1 of the 2 things PTCI hates. 1 is locking your opponent from doing anything, 2 is donking the opponent before they get a chance to play. They're extremely strict on these types of concepts

Swap big air balloon for a regular one, you have 3 switch outs to move metagross then just pivot back with regular balloons.
Definitely put in mew ex, it gets to abuse metagross acceleration a lot. Same with clefairy, you can completely smack dragapult match ups
You can probably cut the revaroom line, between genesect, mew and fez you have good draw to set up with. Unless the intention was to have no 2 prizers but that feels a bit clunky
3:3 cofarigus line seems too thick, you can replace some with some of the others like the ex which is baby-dragapult like this similar list I found. It gives you more routes while playing instead of being so straight forward in the strategy

THE most effective way would be to have Bench protection from manilulating/placing Damage Counters, which would also stop Dragapult.

Another option is to make it so all Darkness Energy is neutralized or discarded.

The last one would be something like Picnic Basket, but better.
