Kanto and Johto had the best self-contained episodes and contrary to whatever mass of faggots will tell, these are much more interesting than cookie-cutter "follow the game events" parts.
"Wired For Battle" is still my favorite episode - interesting premise, good writing, absolutely based fight choreography and great for early Johto animation. In fact it was the first episode of Pokemon that was using digital coloring, letting animators focus on other elements.
Also Ash wiping the floor with stereotypical numberfag was kind of based. The ProNuzlocker/Hardcore Smogontard getting owned by power of "Just hit 'em harder, Heracross!".
